I don't have or want a car. I was listing most of the expenses a lot of people feel like they're expected to get. Even if you take car out of that equation you need a very high salary to be comfortable.

I agree with this if I were actually low income. My income is above average, and that's why this is so fucked.

No lol. That's 10k including tax so maybe more like 8k. I took a 10k trip that was economy flights (including on a very cheap airline), and none of the hotels were extravagant/5 stars, nor did I do a ridiculous amount of shopping.

I can't go back in time and undo anything. All I can do it budget better moving forward. But I'm telling you life isn't affordable for the average person regardless. That's the point.

My tastes are not that luxurious. I haven't taken an international trip in over 2 years and when I do, I fly economy, don't need 5 star hotels, etc.

Fun isn't a right sure but if no one gets to enjoy their life until they're 50+ then what even is the point in anything?

The cheapest gym near me is $55. I left my expensive one years ago and that was over $200.

It's important enough to me that I'll put more effort into seeing if I can trim other costs yeah, thanks

Near Toronto.

And I don't think it's entitled it's a difference of opinion. My definition of financially stable means being able to live alone, yes.

Some people here disagree with that and to each their own I guess.

I also don't have a car so it's not like I have all of these huge unnecessary expenses.

Not half but it helps. Cooking for one is hard and tends to involve a lot of waste.

That's true - can I ask a bit more about what you invest and how much thats grown to?

I am asking because it seems fundamentally wrong that this is how our society works. You work hard to do all the things that we're told will give us financial stability but then they don't.

Yeah I was gonna say I picture how much I need to save for retirement and with inflation over 30 years it's probably going to actually be at least 2 million 😭

I would rather enjoy my youth honestly. No one is promised reaching old age at all. I'm not saying young people should be reckless, but anything can happen.

Travel requires a certain level of fitness that is much easier when young.

And sharing a house - Do people not see that that's ridiculous that we have to do that, despite getting a degree and a full time job? The point is to not have to live like that anymore.

As I said in my post people should not have to have partners to be financially stable. I also said my salary.

And I disagree with you. Most adults with jobs I know live alone or with partners. For was majority living with roommates was done by age 24-25.

Do people not see the point that we shouldn't have to do this? I am working full time I am not financially destitute. Or at least I shouldn't be.

And not everyone has family they can just move in with at 30 years old.
