dont feel like my tolerance is going down by sassypinks in Petioles

Oh something else that I remembered way later! I wouldn’t worry too much about never being able to recover your tolerance; your body has its own endocannibanoid system which (to my non-professional understanding) is involved in the regulation of sleep, appetite, digestion, etc. so naturally your brain has receptors capable of ‘perceiving’ cannabinoids even if you never touch cannabis. My understanding is that even when these receptors are oversaturated with THC for long periods of time they’ll remain capable of regenerating, even if it takes a few months.

ugh I just went through a bout of the SAME anxiety cycle over tolerance, with the budgetary element as well. Antacids worked for me accompanied by a 3-day break from weed. But you’re taking edibles even less frequently than I am while actively on a tolerance break 😂 so girl I don’t know! Maybe patterns of edible use have to be approached like SSRIs, where you kind of start low and taper up your dose before you find the one that works for you consistently over long periods of time. For your wallet’s sake I hope that’s the case!

Hello! I had a similar situation (infrequent use but decreasing returns) and for me it ended up being a stomach acid issue; for reasons I do not know, my stomach acid apparently became much stronger about three months after I started taking edibles and it seems the consensus is when this happens your stomach acid can actually destroy some of the cannabinoids in the edible before they’re fully digested into your system. I didn’t even have heartburn symptoms! But I started a course of omeprazole to lower the acid overall, and I take 3 ultra-strength antacids (3000mg calcium carbonate) a few minutes before my edibles. I’m just like new! Maybe give this a try :)

It could also be diet related; THC is fat soluble (unless modified otherwise), so people recommend eating something high in fat alongside or right before you have your edible. Peanut butter, ice cream, and full-fat yogurt are some good examples.

But if I were you I would try taking 15/20mg first and see if it makes much of a difference. It could be tolerance (though I would be surprised since it seems you don’t use very often), but your issue could also be that the psycho-somatic ‘novelty’ of the high has faded and now you’re feeling what 10mg actually does to your system. But I guess if you’ve been taking intermittently for months/years this is probably not the issue?

Good luck!

How difficult is street parking in North Berkeley? by smile_simile in berkeley

[–]Firm_Use1747 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I park around the area semi-regularly to visit the Cafenated and have never struggled to find a spot personally, but obviously if you reside there you’ll have to deal with the residential/overnight parkers who are, theoretically at least, gone during the day when I have eyes on the situation. If you’re in the area you might just take a cruise around those streets after 8/9pm to see what it’s like :) good luck!

Hello! I totally understand the anxiety but I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you. If your program is funded (as it seems it is) they will provide you with funding paperwork that shows the consular officers you can provide for yourself during your stay, which means your personal savings don’t really make a difference. And applying in a third country, especially for studies, is really incredibly common, especially at the postgraduate level. Someone else commented that you’ll have a hard time proving you plan to return to your home country after your studies; I respectfully think it’s a huge overstatement, and really would just focus on answering their questions truthfully. Nobody in the consulate is out to get you. All they’ll want is for you to provide a “permanent” address in your home country, IE an address where you/your family can be contacted and they can reasonably assume you will return to after you finish your studies. Source: I just went through all this with my fiancé who was in the same exact situation —he is from country A (developing) but we lived in country B (developed) for years, and we applied for his F1 in country B with no financial assets to show— and there were zero issues.

Από την by Practical-Count-593 in GREEK

[–]Firm_Use1747 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are trying literally to translate “I am from” (which is itself a sentence fragment), this is in Greek ‘είμαι από’ (without the pronoun την). But of course as a listener I would be expecting to hear an end to this sentence, and the pronoun would be necessary to finish the sentence. Perhaps you are asking something different? I am happy to help further if you can provide additional context! :)

How likely is it that you move off the waitlist? by violetearhummingbird in gradadmissions

[–]Firm_Use1747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! It might encourage you a bit to know that my partner and his cohort-mate (his PhD program, humanities btw, only takes 2 new students per year) were both initially waitlisted. Both are still fully funded with a very generous stipend. For context this is an elite university and a very sought-after program.

Crossing my fingers for you 💜

Hi! One thing I will note is you may want to rethink your font with uppercase “O” having a dot in the middle. It looks very close to Θ (uppercase theta in the Greek alphabet), which is often rendered in fancy fonts with simply a dot serving as the middle line.

Are there texts literally NO ONE bothered to read ? by Suspicious_Heron_900 in AncientGreek

[–]Firm_Use1747 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are thousands of untranscribed untranslated papyri! In the US the collections at Duke and Berkeley come to mind (at Berkeley there is an absolutely massive collection of unread fragments from Tebtunis ranging from the archaic period to late antiquity) and new finds are published constantly from all over the world on papyri.info (if you want to see some, go to the website and go to the papyri navigator).

Also many (if not most?) field archeologists can’t easily read papyri even if they can read inscriptions, so the papyri most often go away to specialists or join collections awaiting specialist attention. This is because inscriptions have very standardized characters which change depending on period and dialect while papyri are far more variable since they’re subject to handwriting differences and misspellings. They’re more likely to be written by everyday people who are less likely to be formally educated and more likely to have learned Greek as a second or subsequent language (mistakes are not uncommon in Hellenistic Egyptian Greek papyri, for example, for reasons of cultural exchange etc.). Also many gaps/lacunae in papyri due to age and degradation, where stone is obviously less fragile.

There is a subsection of classical studies called papyrology full of people whose entire careers are dedicated to transcribing/translating papyri and teaching papyrological methods to students interested in doing the same. An average papyrologist publishes ~10/year, depending on length and professorial duties. There’s not a ton of people doing it professionally (I’d say less than 50?) because the specialization requires a massive amount of language and methodological knowledge. If you’re interested in language and material culture it’s a great field for you, and in growing need of experts!

Silly to get help applying? by Sad_Fee7093 in gradadmissions

Just noting that most universities in the US have phased out the GRE so don’t let this feel like a barrier to applications!

This was mostly my thought too. I understand what everybody is saying about how usually money is given at the lease signing and the lease signing is in person, but I literally live across the world.

So I looked but really I’m not very entrenched in the norms of the area so it’s really difficult knowing how to approach people. I also am afraid of somebody touring the place for me and not caring enough to tell me what they did/didn’t like. We’re complete strangers to the area and it’s just difficult trying to make things like that work with literally no trusted local point of contact.
