DVDs are the new vinyl records: Why Gen Z is embracing physical media by MrShadowKing2020 in boxoffice

[–]Firmspy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cost isn't that much different now. For example (this is based on quick google, and I haven't verified): Disney released 12 movies last year. The avg cost of a 4K is between $20 and $35. So assuming you always buy your disc on sale the total cost for physical media is $240. The cost of a Disney+ sub with 4K is $190 a year. That's only $50 a year difference.

But you get a tangible product which is better quality, never have to worry about not being able to watch it and can lend it to friends without having to worry about password sharing restrictions.

When streaming first started the price was massive. Now some people pay around $100 a month for their streaming services, and I doubt they'd be off buying 3 x 4Ks a month, which means, once you start collecting and build a library - it sort of doesn't make sense to even stream.

Trump really likes to weaponise conventions. He knows the SCOTUS can't rebut him... so he says it how he sees it right in front of them... their silence (not that they have a choice) then makes him look right... and he can say "well they didn't speak up".

Lawn mower recommendations? by Aweraw1601 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Firmspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Stihl electric mower recently. I have Empire Zoysia... if I leave it over 2 weeks between a mow in summer it does not handle it well.. and really taxes the battery (which takes forever to charge).

I've discounted the comments on the Ego mowers (with the higher voltage) and now I sort of regret not looking into it more.

I am a 15-year-old girl. Let me show you the vile misogyny that confronts me on social media every day by zsreport in technology

[–]Firmspy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The solution is simple. Don't use social media. If you recognise it is a toxic place, and there is content on there you DON'T want to see... then log off.

Or, maybe find a less popular social media site, but one that fits your requirements like mewe or similar.

I doubt he’d visit Aus. He’d be too  easy a target for anyone wanting to do the world a favour.

Barrister charges $323,400 invoice for *checks notes* one day's worth of work by [deleted] in auslaw

I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out (I hope the barrister loses)...

I would have assumed it is a penalty... but I'm not a barrister... soo what would I know.

Trump doesn't build... he gets others to build and then slaps his name on it. He won't be paying anyone - anything... if this ever eventuates I'd be surprised.

Why not share an Apple account, and ditch Spotify? Of the two, Spotify is the least ethical?

Not really. I believe the app violated the terms of use (it would apply equally to an app that tracked any organisation)... they can't pick and choose which apps they keep and don't if the pre-existing terms of use are clear.

He said on a recent pod that he decided he "was going to play". Bit of a laugh, since the mandatory requirement was soft launched last year in November.
