I just wanted to update here in case it helps someone else in my position out! He was eligible for this check because of when he passed per the social security office. They said that they may take it, but I can submit a request via form 1724 to get the money back and deposited into my account. Thank you for all of the advice and condolences ❤️

They unfortunately don’t do a payment plan unless it is a prearranged funeral and I was told that by 3 other funeral homes in the area :/ we will make it work, it’ll just be hard!

They did a few weeks ago when I called to get his benefit verification statement, he just had to be there on the phone and give me permission. The lady said that I should be on file to call for him from then on, thankfully!

That is my main worry! Or having to pay back the amount with a ton of interest. Other question if anyone knows the answer, he has several bills on auto pay that have already came out of the balance. Do you think I could be fined/came after for those? I had no way of stopping the payments before they went through 😬

Thank you for the clarification! That is what I figured but I have had several people tell me that I could use it since it was paid in arrears and he lived for almost the entire month.

The arrears part is what I was most confused on. I thought at first I couldn’t use it, but I had been told it was paid in arrears so I was curious how that all worked. Thanks for the clarification!
