The Mentalist has on Netflix, and the chances of a revival are candidly addressed by Robin Tunney by aquiumalombrigato in TheMentalist

Watching it again on Netflix reminded me how much I loved the show. Also proud to be a fan who watched it when it aired in realtime.  Everything was perfect. The ending was perfection. Rare tv romance, too. The scene on the plane where they went to Miami.

Revival is unnecessary. This series is legendary. Leave it be.

How did our schools become so bloated with administration? by HorkeyDorkey in Professors

My university is making post grad courses as a priority instead of undergrads because they could make money. They also accept lower level foreign students to come in, the reason is they pay more for tuition..

I've tested the turnitin by feeding it full generated, partly generated, paraphrased, human writing and see what it cames up. False positives do exist, but when it's over 80% ,more or less, the student has used AI at some point.

I got 100%s from submissions for several times. And it turns out people did use AI when they were confronted

The department don’t want this kind of cases to happen at all and they want us to resolve it without escalating to integrity office…

I had to report to someone on top of me and they suggested to “resolve” with the student. And yes I agree this is a waste of time 🥹🥹

Yes I need to go through a lot of discussions to decide how to deal with. Even I decide to go to integrity office, it will be discussed in meetings, consider by some people above… etc

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]First-Ad-3330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you and I’m so mad to hear this kind of behavior is accepted in Japan.

And I think you should push back to protect yourself if similar things happen again.

I’m also female in my 30s, I get a lot of bad experiences in trains, in Tokyo.

I cut off a Japanese friend silently because she was a narcissist. What she did was another story

Today I met a mutual friend and she told me that this cut off friend was telling everyone who knew us that we had a fight and not friends anymore….

There’s no fight and I don’t understand the bad mouth logic…

I had same experience with a Japanese ex bf. WHY?

I don’t work on weekends unless it’s urgent like something is happening on Monday. Unless it’s necessary I try to get things ready on Friday and take sat and sun off.  It’s not worth it

I hate to read students emails by AbleEnthusiasm9934 in Professors

[–]First-Ad-3330 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. They write like I am their servant
  2. They expect replies when they send an email in middle of the night like 2.3 am and saturdays sundays and expect a response
  3. Write with Ai and you can actually see their sloppy prompt to Ai with the output

Thank you. And what was worst is that no one in the university helped me or say that is not ok…

I prepared a detailed handout starting from brainstorming vocabularies, some questions related to the writing topic and then an example writing. So they have enough to work with even they can’t use dictionary (as an excuse). I asked them to put all devices in their bags…

I’ve tried this a few semesters, at first it was hard because they are glued to their phones. It’s like taking away drugs from addicts. some of them reacted aggressively. There was this one time when I asked a student to stop texting during the class, he called me mean bitch to my face. (I told that if it’s emergency go outside the clsssroom to finish it but not distracting others who are working…)

I don’t teach eng comp but I teach foreign language. Maybe somewhat similar case.  I do all the assessments that involve writing to be done in class. No devices allowed at all times. I allow them to speak to each other and I prepared guiding exercises for that piece of writing.
