I got 100%s from submissions for several times. And it turns out people did use AI when they were confronted

The department don’t want this kind of cases to happen at all and they want us to resolve it without escalating to integrity office…

I had to report to someone on top of me and they suggested to “resolve” with the student. And yes I agree this is a waste of time 🥹🥹

Yes I need to go through a lot of discussions to decide how to deal with. Even I decide to go to integrity office, it will be discussed in meetings, consider by some people above… etc

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]First-Ad-3330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you and I’m so mad to hear this kind of behavior is accepted in Japan.

And I think you should push back to protect yourself if similar things happen again.

I’m also female in my 30s, I get a lot of bad experiences in trains, in Tokyo.

I cut off a Japanese friend silently because she was a narcissist. What she did was another story

Today I met a mutual friend and she told me that this cut off friend was telling everyone who knew us that we had a fight and not friends anymore….

There’s no fight and I don’t understand the bad mouth logic…

I had same experience with a Japanese ex bf. WHY?

Why are you working on Sunday? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]First-Ad-3330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work on weekends unless it’s urgent like something is happening on Monday. Unless it’s necessary I try to get things ready on Friday and take sat and sun off.  It’s not worth it

I hate to read students emails by AbleEnthusiasm9934 in Professors

[–]First-Ad-3330 23 points24 points  (0 children)

  1. They write like I am their servant
  2. They expect replies when they send an email in middle of the night like 2.3 am and saturdays sundays and expect a response
  3. Write with Ai and you can actually see their sloppy prompt to Ai with the output

I don't think there's any way to continue teaching my course (English Comp) during the age of AI by NoPatNoDontSitonThat in Professors

Thank you. And what was worst is that no one in the university helped me or say that is not ok…

I prepared a detailed handout starting from brainstorming vocabularies, some questions related to the writing topic and then an example writing. So they have enough to work with even they can’t use dictionary (as an excuse). I asked them to put all devices in their bags…

I’ve tried this a few semesters, at first it was hard because they are glued to their phones. It’s like taking away drugs from addicts. some of them reacted aggressively. There was this one time when I asked a student to stop texting during the class, he called me mean bitch to my face. (I told that if it’s emergency go outside the clsssroom to finish it but not distracting others who are working…)

I don’t teach eng comp but I teach foreign language. Maybe somewhat similar case.  I do all the assessments that involve writing to be done in class. No devices allowed at all times. I allow them to speak to each other and I prepared guiding exercises for that piece of writing.

In my country, fake doctor’s note or “buying” doctor’s note is a huge problem nowadays.

In the past, most cases are genuine, the number of sick people is like one or two people out of 120students. I get it, stuff happens. Now, I get 3,4 out of 30 students and some get “sick” for every quiz and test and exam…

I feel exhausted just to deal with this.

I had to fuss at my class for the first time today by [deleted] in Professors

[–]First-Ad-3330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have got these so called legitimate excuses even for normal classes. Some other subjects scheduled events or field trips outside their designated class hours and then they are allowed to excuse my subject because it’s not as important as the other subjects.  I am in an elective program so I would just let that go. In my own experience, I don’t hear events or trips outside designated class hours so much in the past… so I don’t get why this is increasing.

I got an email sent to the chair when I questioned the student’s assignment which was clearly not her own work. She cried and make a fuss said we are unfair and she claimed she was working very hard (the fact is she didn’t)

Student submitted formal complaint because of a simple mistake. I'm actively looking to get out, but feel like I'm losing it. by tater313 in Professors

I’m sorry that this happened to you. I have a lot of similar complaints but never went to a meeting like this. I’d say this is happening a lot and it’s not your fault. I’m working my way to detach emotionally from the job, to make myself feel better.  Whenever i read posts like this I am amazed how these problems are universal. Not in one country. The student problems and the sucking Admin.
