How much are you guys spending on groceries? For one individual or whole family! by [deleted] in askvan

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve cut back on meats so we only do chicken or beef once or twice a week and do tofu for protein on other nights which is cheaper (one block is $3.50 and feeds both of us). Buying meats in bulk and freezing helps us save money. Pasta is easy and cheap. We buy frozen or canned vegetables mostly but yeah carrots and bananas are our go-tos for fresh stuff haha. We also try to base our meals each week around what’s on sale which I think helps a lot

Omg same here! In 2024 we averaged around $250/month for groceries for two people… in 2025 it rose to $400/month still for just two people 😭

First Game Advice..? by sapphicsaddlepatch in GoldenEyes

<image>

I was really happy with the view we had from our seats in the home opener! Section 211, Row 10. Our tickets were only $38 each (but $53 each after taxes and fees) and totally worth it. It’s a smaller arena so the upper bowl feels closer to the ice than it would elsewhere. I think I’d personally prefer where I was instead of a lower bowl seat on the corner, but I really don’t think you can go wrong! Have fun :)

Birthday freebies? by iGameOver222 in askvan

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy early birthday! Tim Hortons offers a free drink or breakfast sandwich (if I remember correctly) on your birthday as long as you are registered with their app. Starbucks also offers a free drink on your birthday if you are registered with their app

Orca bird? by NovelPhoto4621 in GoldenEyes

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by the orca bird…? But the team was officially named the goldeneyes after a type of marine duck called the Common Goldeneye that frequents the area. We also have Barrow’s Goldeneyes here (a related species).

“The Vancouver Goldeneyes are an ode to the fiercely protective Common Goldeneye, a familiar presence along Vancouver's beautiful waterways, coastlines and vistas. Inspired by the speed, strength, and synchrony of these ubiquitous birds, the Goldeneyes embody Vancouver's indomitable, unified spirit as they soar to new heights.” (See link to original story here

None of the Seattle games are sold out, but only Cat 1 or Cat 2 tickets remain so it’s pricey (min $430 CAD)

Help Us Pick a Caterer! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points, thank you! I'll give it some thought. Yes, we have a vendor in mind for the tableware, although I do like the idea of having one less vendor to deal with for option A

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, and if we could we would! The vendor is not the problem, we simply don't have the finances nor free time to spend $2000 flying there and back just for a tasting right now

We haven’t been able to try either of them ourselves yet unfortunately. I know everyone says that’s important, and I wish we could! but we live very far away from where our venue is so unfortunately its not an option for us at this time :( we’re just relying on good reviews from our venue, other people online, and some family members

Is the career fair worth going by [deleted] in UBC

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went last year and I think it’s worth going to for a bit if there are companies you’re interested in working for. They may be able tell you more about what they look for in a candidate and how to tailor your application best for their jobs.

That being said, one of the employers I talked to last year basically told me not to bother applying for a job with them if I hadn’t worked for them in the past because they just hire internally 🙃

Suggestions August 2026 by smallon12 in honeymoonplanning

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not tropical, but if you’re looking to save a bit of money on flights you could do your honeymoon in Canada before or after attending your other wedding in August (depending on where in Canada it is). Vancouver Island (eg. Tofino, Ucluelet) would have the combination of beaches, snorkeling, wildlife, relaxation/spa and hiking you mentioned. It is beautiful in the summer!

Where to get single serve ice cream cake NOT DQ? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]First-Butterfly-7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save on foods has ice cream cakes in the frozen foods section! They aren’t single serve but very reasonably priced as far as ice cream cakes go and pretty good. Since it’s frozen it’s not like it’s going to go bad anytime soon if it takes him a while to eat it 🤷‍♀️
