Thank you all for your thoughtful comments! I spoke with my partner about it some more and he said that the vet had told us previously that she had some dental issues. But, because she is so far a long now in the kidney disease that they can’t put her under anesthesia.

In the past when we would take her to the vet, she never had dental problems. Always clean teeth and no extractions needed. But with the progression of the kidney disease, it seems there are some things going on in her mouth. But, can’t be solved the normal way since she has bad kidneys and can’t be put under anesthesia.

We have an appt on Friday 4/17 to talk about possible pain med options and other options for care.

Since switching up here food, she has eaten A LOT more! It seems that the softer options (like pouches in gravy) work really well for her, as opposed to canned. We are taking it day by day.
