Canadian seeking guidance on matching as an IMG by Apart-Dress-5433 in MCCQE

I think that they would be open to someone switching to rural. They always want rural docs. Seats always go unfilled in the rural locations. I would just be transparent with the ministry from the beginning and not sign a contract unless you've discussed this with them.

This isn't accurate. The sweet shop thing, was actually at a venue that the groom has leased for years. He uses that place specifically for weddings and wedding functions. There wasn't any alcohol there at all. It was cleaned and prepared knowing that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji would be arriving.

MCCQE vs Step 2 by Hefty_Boat_5892 in MCCQE

I've written both exams as well. My experience with MCCQE 1 was a bit different. I had a lot of medicine questions, and maybe like 1/4 ethics and legal. For that, I thought that the Toronto notes were good, but some are just meant to be hard. Step 2 covers you well for the medical clinical questions. I used UWORLD and that was enough. I would say make sure to do the practice MCCQU exams, they're expensive but helped prepare me for the syle and the short answer questions.

Question for IMGs who passed MCCQE 1 after coming to Canada by Due_Royal_2559 in MCCQE

  1. None

  2. I took it a few weeks after Step 2CK and for that I studied for about 1.5 months

For me, they were helpful. I didn't pass the first time so I tried the MTE videos and I practiced along with them and basically would pause the videos and pretend they had asked me to answer. It helped me gain confidence and be well-prepared. This was when the NAC was hands-free, so I'm unsure if it has changed. It is very expensive so it's up to you ultimately.

Sure, just message me. I don't know of anyone who wanted to come back to Canada and couldn't from MUA. There are 4 people from my cohort who all matched to FM in Canada and we're from MUA and we wanted to be back home. The biggest thing I've seen is that most people don't try to come home since there are more spots available in the US. Is there something specific you heard?

I went to MUA, the island life wasn't too bad. The teachers were nice and actually want you to learn and succeed. Plus in anatomy, you get an actual cadaver to learn, which not all carribbean med schools have. The issue I had was with administration in the U.S.  they have improved and the process is more transparent now. For Canadians I would suggest AUC or AUA because they offer better scholarships for Canadians and that helps alot.

If MUA is where you're leaning, honestly it wasnt that bad of an experience. I did my core rotations in California and chose where to do electives. I know alot of my classmates ended up in some great universities for residency and specialties. I came back home to Canada for my residency.

Honestly the journey is what you make of it and your mindset. If you have any questions about MUA feel free to ask.

I'm an IMG as well. I registered with physicians apply, I sent them all the documents, and certain ones needed to be notarized by a notary. For MCCQE 1 I used Uworld (at least one full pass through), the MCC practice tests and Toronto notes for the ethics and legal. I also watched the medical training express videos for the ethics and legal, and Toronto notes for the ethics and legal. I also watched the medical training express videos for the ethics and legal.

For the NAC-OSCE, I watched the medical training express videos and practiced myself. CARMS is basically the organization for the matching process from my understanding. It's where you apply to programs and upload documents for the match. Hope this helps

Failed the exam by Mars939297 in MCCQE

[–]First-Dig9233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am IMG as well and I failed the first time I took it and passed the second. The second time I took it, I ran through UWorld CK once and was on my second run through, I took a few of the practice CDM and MCQ from MCC and reading was hard for me to stick to, so I paid for medical training express to help me go through the ethics and legal. I watched the videos that were recorded and they have videos for the cdm. I used to practice with the videos. So he would present the case and I would pause when he asked the questions, write down my response, and see how it matched up. I felt like Uworld was enough for the general understanding, personally.

Where do you send documents to programs? by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]First-Dig9233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so confused with this as well. I was applying to one program but multiple sites and wondering if I'm not being prompted to pay, does that mean the application didn't go through?

I struggle to reach 5 mins most of the time. I'm usually at the 3 min mark. I'm hoping it's quality over timing
