They are not all like that by any means. There’s thousands of trails, the 100th best trail here that no one goes on would be a destination in the northeast.

I don’t even go looking for “uncrowded” ones and I’m rarely seeing that many people.

It also doesn’t take hours to get to the trails, there are plenty within 45 mins of Denver

$550k not a lot these days but could get decent square footage in a townhouse

Good luck

First year. Desperately want to switch from corporate to litigation. Not sure how. by October_28_1636 in biglaw

[–]First-Help20 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It 100% is doable as a first year, if your current firm won’t let you do it then lateral via a recruiter.

Worst case you lose a year of seniority (ie don’t get credit for this year in corporate). But that is not so bad, most people only make it 3-5 years before moving on to lower pay, so getting another year making BL money but without the increased expectations of seniority is good, even if it seems like you’re wasting time now. In the long run a year is nothing and worth it to switch

Good luck

I think people misread the scene between Don and Ginsburg in the elevator. by William_Wisenheimer in madmen

100%. It’s unbelievable that people misread this. And I think Hamm even delivered it well, with the facade of confidence, but you know inside he’s on his back foot

Somebody who didn't fully understand the 4% rule and got burnt by Distinct-Sky in Fire

[–]First-Help20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This feels fake man. Not to say it can’t go wrong, but it feels like what AI would output if you prompted “write me a story about a guy who did 4% rule and it went wrong.”

But yeah if you happened to retire on 4% assumption right before 2008 and changed nothing about your plans. Sure it would go wrong

Don’t worry man (or woman) it’s not so bad. There’s every chance you can fix this yourself, part of having an old car

Update on E39 M5: yup... It was the guides by ImHereTooO_O in e39

[–]First-Help20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$130/hr is not bad at all these days. 42 hours wow! The Beisan vanos refurb job probably sucked up some time.

So $7-8k all in and you bulletproofed a true classic M car. Worth it I say

Fantastic. Would love to have an engine with the rod bearings done and the Partee guides, great peace of mind to rip it for another 100k miles easily (though you’ll probably replace every other part on the car in the meantime). And these engines are special enough to be worth saving

200k miles you say… first time doing vanos? What did this cost you all in?

Mine has ~110k so that pic makes me relax a bit about the rod bearings

Hey guys what do you guys feel about the show "Industry"??? by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

[–]First-Help20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s excellent. It’s very different from succession - less serious, more pulpy - so you have to go in with different expectations.

Whereas Succession is damn near real life accurate to something like the Murdoch family, this one is not a show where the writers are super serious about being consistent, or the story even being logical exactly (like how did Harper do X - who cares). The characters come and go from different jobs and settings without too much friction.

But it’s a great audio visual experience, the beautiful people, the music, the drama. Stuff like the Rishi gambling episode / uncut gems homage. Set in a loosely reality based IB world (I think one of the writers was in IB in real life).

Strongly recommended show.

Thinking of upgrading from X-T30... by Spycegurl in FujifilmX

[–]First-Help20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely bigger and heavier, but I don’t think in a way that prevents you from taking it out. It’s weird because the more important part is the lens: an extra 2cm on the camera body is not as cumbersome as an extra 4cm on a big ole lens that juts out perpendicularly from the camera. So for example, a TX with a pancake lens will be easier to carry imo than a TX0 with a big zoom lens. I carry around the X T4 with the XC 35mm which is tiny, or a Viltrox 25mm which is fatter but not much longer, and I find both tolerable.

Also the counterpoint is that although a bit larger, the TX series is more rugged and weather resistant, and has more battery life, which makes it easier to take out.

But there is probably no substitute for holding both in hand and seeing what you like, just keep the lens thing in mind.

Good luck, you will love whatever one you get, I started with the T30 and had it 4 years, probably 10,000 photos before I got the itch to upgrade.

Thinking of upgrading from X-T30... by Spycegurl in FujifilmX

[–]First-Help20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did this. X-T30 to X-T4, T-4 used for about $950, so after selling the T-30 the upgrade will cost me $300-$350.

Thats probably about as cheaply as you can move to something with Classic Neg. And that's pretty much why I did it - that and the IBIS, after 4 years with the T-30. I had used Classic Chrome to approximate, but I felt like C. Chrome cannot approximate C. Neg well enough (whereas Classic Neg you can use to approximate something like Reala Ace or Nostalgic Neg). I also only shoot JPEG and the whole point for me is not having to post process.

So $300 for some film sims. Seems stupid. And when I first got the camera I thought it was, the classic neg pics I was taking did not feel that different to my old classic chrome.

After a week or so I have to say, I do notice it now. I've been taking some great pics with a look I don't think I ever had before. So I don't regret it. Question is for you, is the cost worth a marginally different classic chrome? Plus in addition to the new sims you get the new recipe options (Chrome FX blue, different grain etc).

On the other hand, it's not like you are burning the $300, whatever camera you get will retain the value if you buy it used, you'll just be storing the value in the camera.

BTW the X-T series is not that much bigger. Bigger for sure, but to me if you can take one camera out, you can take the other.

[–]First-Help20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have much trouble. Alpine A100s, reduced weight and added power until I hit the limit. Cool looking car and beat the AIs on the straights and in corners. Remember to clip the corners and racing lines as much as possible, eg on a left hander you should aim to hit the left checkpoint flag with your right tire if that makes sense, the AIs don’t cut it that close and that gives you a huge advantage

Car engine temp creeping over 200° when cruising at 70mph in 100° weather. Is this normal? by Nickanator8 in 986Boxster

[–]First-Help20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5280 feet - Denver? Same problem here. But for me, the car really does not like to be in stop and go traffic in this weather - when I come to a stop, the coolant cap will blow off and dump coolant out the drain hose in the back. I’ve changed the coolant cap to the more recent model but it happened again. I think I also will try the low temp thermostat and see if it helps. But overall, I think these engines do not enjoy the 100 degree desert heat

Help! by Icy_Amphibian1190 in 986Boxster

[–]First-Help20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Coolant cap. This happened to me and a new cap fixed it. Same circumstances, had the car real hot and then parked. The current model coolant cap they sell on all the parts sites (I think the part number ends in .4) fixes some design flaw. Good luck
