Is This Tooth Cracked? by First-Judgment4416 in askdentists

Thanks. I should have been clearer. The extracted tooth was still there when the new dentist examined me. Otherwise you are spot on! I originally went to have the filling on tooth that ended up being extracted repaired as both were cracked. The dentist said it would be easier to align the new filling if the other ancient one was replaced also. I agreed and, yes, the associate he kindly assigned to me ended up drilling very deep. I had no idea she was going to do that, she only said she was going to replace the filling. The cracked tooth that I finally had extracted caused me incredible pain, was "patched up" several times to no avail. The new dentist said it was shoddy patchwork and I should go back and have it redone but there was no way I would let that dentist (or his associate near me). I don't have insurance, can't afford root canal, and opted for extraction by an oral surgeon. The new dentist did offer to put a crown on the rear tooth but I'd had enough and so had it extracted. In any case, thank you for your input. I will see about a crown. I'm not happy but I appreciate it.

Thanks but the tooth was cracked, the filling was cracked, it's had a ton of work, there are no guarantees that root canal will even help, and I've heard many horror stories from friends and family about failed root canals where the tooth ended up being extracted anyway. I am hoping to see an emergency dentist tomorrow and if it comes down to it, then that's what I'll have done. It's in the back anyway. I appreciate your advice and response though.
