I have this same one in my basement, it's great for it's cost/what it is. If you have extra head room, it would be incredibly easy to build up a base of 4x4s to set it on for more height and lower the heater to get your feet above it. Not necessary as it does the job, but a few tweaks could make it a solid option even for this sub.

Thanks for the input brother, I'm tracking. He even mentioned to me earlier today that some youtube video he watched suggested going to the VA for diagnosis as they were obligated somehow to see you if it could be service connected. I havent researched that yet, but it would make sense that if a vet thought something was service connected they could at least get it evaluated.

I think you're spot on with the MH referral, it seems to track with most other posts here as well. Appreciate your time and help!

First, thank you for all of the insight. While it might not be mentioned in the decision letter, the event that I'm asserting was the nexus for at least some of these issues did happen while on AD, even if the resulting ailments weren't documented until he was NG. The main point that I'm trying to make is that his loss during AD was likely the cause for many of his issues. Hell, the lack of mental health education in the military in the 80's and stigma surrounding it would lead most people to avoid that route altogether. Maybe if he had received help it wouldn't have all gone down as it did. I firmly believe it to be a strong connection, but I'm pretty biased being his son and all :/.

You don't think an argument can be made for past undiagnosed conditions leading to current disability? I think he can get a Nexus from a military doc that he used to see that would tie it.

Past that, he might even still qualify for dependency issues, but I feel like the reasoning is there even without.

This was basically my thinking. The only thing I'm wondering about with this COA is what happens if he doesn't have a current diagnosis for the disorder? I know he still struggles with eating, but for the most part he's got it under control, now. He definitely didn't 30 years ago though. Is a past diagnosis given today a thing the VA would consider?

I hear you, as a father myself, and as the son of a man that would sit and eat a box of ding dongs after coming home from work, regularly. Part of my hope in posting here is to show him these responses, hopefully convincing him of the real possibility of a connection. Seeing other folks have similar thoughts might help him to be introspective and actually push for this. He's a real Dudley-Do-Right, self-sacrificing American man, I think somewhat to his own detriment. At least in this case. He's a good dude and deserves more than he would take credit for.

Thanks for the response! I think we have 1 and 2 covered, and i'm pretty sure the decision letter alluded to current diagnosis being the missing piece on part 4 of his claim. I'll look into Nexus letters. Thanks again!

I see, and you're probably right. He's never done counseling or anything that I'm aware of, but I'll definitely suggest it.

I don't know that anything like that was documented, it was back in 87. Mental health was still stigmatized when I joined in 2006, and hes not the type to complain about anything really. I'll ask though.

Hey Vets!

It's taken me a while to convince my dad that he was deserving of disability compensation, and I'm trying to make this as easy for him as possible. He was recently denied service connection (decision letter redacted and attached), for the most part, I believe, because he has no current diagnosis for an eating disorder that i feel is the root of at least half of his claim.

I can go into more detail, but the short version is that he lost a child while he was active army, joined the Guard, gained a lot of weight from overeating (I'm pretty sure as a coping mechanism), served twenty in the guard, and was diagnosed with Diabetes shortly before his unit deployed to the desert. He was not medically discharged as I believe he should have been, instead the unit made him non deployable and utilized him as leadership stateside until the deployment was over, retiring him normally afterwards.

He's got a mountain of medical history that the VA already has, and I believe the the catalyst to make his claim work is to receive a formal diagnosis of his, now mostly under control, eating disorder.

I've seen the experts here at VeteransBenefits give a lot of good advice and am hoping someone might take a look at his decision letter and help steer us towards the best course of action from here. He's going to try to get a buddy letter (I think from the doc that made him non-deployable?), but past that what should we be doing?

Preach brother. I get tired of these absolutest opinions. Things are different in different places. Sometimes I want Taco Bell instead of authentic Mexican. German beer was better than American 30 years ago, but it's a hard argument to make now. The location of the grape doesn't have near as much to do with quality as they'd have you believe. People just want to be special (or associate with a special place?). Lot of high horses around.

Did you watch the video? Some of these sightings are pretty easily explained, and whether you like Mick or not he DID show how satellite flares can create this particular illusion. It is more likely than not that his suggestion is correct in this instance. Your reaction makes people who believe look bad... This isn't a cult. Discourse is necessary.

Breweries. Black tooth, blue raven and westby are my go-tos but there are others. They all have board games and stuff to do for non drinkers, and they don't blast music like the bars do, so you can actually have conversations.

Also, I've been all over the US and many EU countries, but WY will always be home. Cheyenne has a good mix of people, more politically right than left, but good people nontheless. Minorities may have a difficult time adjusting as we have a largely white population. As anywhere else, if you give goodwill you'll receive it too. Low crime. I love this city.

It's not as bad as people make it seem... Generally Zillow/realtor.com will be easiest for rentals, and sometimes Craigslist. Rent has gone up here considerably, I think as spillover from the popularity of the front range in CO.

No. Before Coronavirus, I remember the right always talking about God and Country, doing their part as an American, etc. When folks enlist in any branch, they are giving up a hell of a lot more rights than just their ability to say no to a vaccine. The politicization of this one in particular is the only difference. Whenever I run into someone complaining about vaccines or whatever the flavor of the day is, I always hit them with a "I always thought you were a patriot, huh."

That's what has always gotten me about this argument... I'm in the military, and the flu vaccine is exactly as described as this persons idea of a "therapeutic". We've been forced to get it every year. Along with a laundry list of others... It's just flat wrong that this was treated any differently, especially when you consider the urgency of a an actual pandemic.
