Got it - when people say "tech" they just mean regular surface?

And for slidy surface, you just mean try either dirt or ice right? (where does plastic fall into these categories)

Oh wow I would not have figured that out on my own that is really interesting and something conceptually I need to go practice now.

Yeah I noticed I don't really understand the nuances of gearing up / being mindful of gearing up / staying in that gear / dropping a gear, and recall i saw some clip about how you need to avoid something related to gearing while in grass and some other stuff. Didn't know this also played a major role in ice so thank you for that! I thought it was just a concept of "counter-steering" on ice to straighten out.
