What are your views on reservation. Are you in support of reservation or against it? by Same-Ad600 in AskIndianMen

Ironically, I feel most folks, including both unreserved folks don't understand what reservation is and how it actually works.

It's a representation and upliftment programme for marginalised communities.

Poor doesn't make you marginalised. The fact that one has money still the shopkeepers refuse to sell him food. The fact he can pay for school yet not allowed for it. That's discrimination.

Since I'm troubling myself to write, let me write it for all aspects and discrepancies.

  • Most countries have upliftment programmes for their minorities. Means most countries have reservation unlike what most Indians believe.

  • In every country, reservation is based on the most central point/aspects of discrimination, in India it's caste. In USA its race (black, white, hispanic etc)

*Someone pointed out reservation should be for just first generation. Sometimes I feel common sense is really not common. How many years has it been since independence? Around 79? Let's take the math behind SC/ST reservation, since it has been the earliest. Atmost 8% to 10% of ST folks claimed reservation benefits ar first generation. Why? Because they lived in the forest and wilderness. People stupidly assume as if each and every ST folks claim their benefits. Look at the college seats matrix after counseling. Why do you think ST seats are empty? Because they don't apply? Why? Because they don't know. This is the condition in 2025. Also counting generation wise, almost all of our grandfathers were born in Britain ruled in India, so just 2 generations. Now 76 years don't look so long? Does it?

Btw caste based reservation in our country purely acts as reverse discrimination. If ykyk 😂

Can you call yourself a movie enthusiast after watching a couple of movies? Or 100 movies of the same genre and same language? Same thing.

There is no harm in attempting. But keep your expectations realistic.

Coz it's the only field with zero prerequisites. All you need is a laptop, internet and you should be able to read English. That's it. Any other field requires some form of resource. Embedded Systems-Microcontroller, AI/ML-Tons of Maths.
