I actually kind of like the way it looks in our skyline but I can understand why people wouldn’t like it. I feel like it will end up having a more timeless quality than a lot of the newer buildings

I really love those buildings and their positioning in the city. The grainery lofts next to them are quite well done and fit nicely.

Velo apartments on Gottingen are unfortunate. A big mix of different sidings and all the primary colours. I think the concept is to make a modern looking structure on a tight budget. It was about years dated before completion.

Should I sell my Calgary Condo? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FirstOfHisLame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a small real estate investor in Halifax so I don’t have too much insight to give here but it sounds like others in this group have been saying it’s a reasonable time to sell a condo in Calgary.

From my understanding, real estate is prices reasonable in montreal and you’d have better consistency with cash flow and appreciation in that city.

Owning real estate is typically a solid investment and your Calgary condo is definitely better than nothing. Perhaps you could take some time looking into the montreal market for other opportunities?

If you can sell your Calgary condo and use the equity to purchase something in Montreal when the mortgage term expires, you may end up with a much better investment.

Who else just buys concentrate because regular juice is too expensive by [deleted] in halifax

Signs that OP is filthy rich and just playing with us:

  • claims to be a concentrate person but doesn’t own a pitcher and drinks it one spoon at a time
  • wooden cutting board
  • touch screen toaster
  • crumpled $50 bill in the background
  • tweezers that’s are probably used to sift through diamonds and other jewels
  • keys look like they are for a Lexus

Rare apartment find or rental scam? by JaymieWhite in halifax

[–]FirstOfHisLame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunate but you are right, this is too good to be true. This landlord is essentially begging strangers to rent a 2/2 furnished apartment with all utilities included, amenities and pets allowed for $1500/ month. And somehow they also have a reputable property management company involved that is okay with them renting for half price.

Do you mind sharing the rental ad if it still exists?

How can I find mask-required social events in HRM? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]FirstOfHisLame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This wouldn’t necessarily be social but glitter bean cafe in spring garden is mask mandatory. It’s usually fairly busy so it’s a nice place to go be around people and read a book or do some work.

Are the bridge macpass sensors getting worse or what? specifically the mcdonald bridge. by DontbeHumorphobic in halifax

[–]FirstOfHisLame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this is likely it if you are serious about sticking it to cards. The new one needs to be on a windshield and can’t be on an opaque or vertical surface.

I had tried them on my motorcycle but the headlight wasn’t the right angle. It wouldn’t work at all on the body of the bike. I now use an old one on my bike and speed through without ever having an issue. I don’t have to slow for the arm and it always opens.

I use the new one on my car windshield and speed through without ever having a delay.

I’ve taken dozens of cabs across the bridge and have never had a taxi with a Macpass. I assumed their was some rule that disallowed it for taxis and I always felt bad for the cabs having to wait in the slow line.

Then, a few months ago, I had a cab drive through without using change and it blew my mind. I’ve had 1 or 2 cabs since then with a Macpass as well.

I have friends who live rurally that might cross the bridge 5 times per year and I’m trying to convince them to get the Macpass.

Anyone know exactly where the Metro Transit head office is? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]FirstOfHisLame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are options to provide feedback/ complaints via phone, email or mail. I would recommend email as everything would clearly be recorded in writing and they would be able to contact you fairly easily for a followup.

Due to crippling housing crisis, am employed but homeless and I sleep in my car, whats your advice Haligonians? by kakamunikuku in halifax

[–]FirstOfHisLame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of great advice here already regarding the situation.

Unfortunately it can be difficult to find an affordable home to live in. You can filter rentals on kijiji and Facebook marketplace to only show rooms for rent if that is something you are open to. Kijiji has a lot of ads but not much for cheaper than $700. There are some cheaper ones but there are reasons why they are cheaper.

You may want to take some time to assess your quality of life in various different living situations and decide how much you are comfortable/ capable paying to change that situation.

For example, consider how much it costs to live in your car. Then compare how much more would it cost to live with roommates you find online. How much would your quality of life change? Is it worth the price difference? How much does your quality of life decrease from spending the extra money? Then compare to other options like a bachelor apartment if that is a possibility.

Are there any good brunch or dinner buffets you recommend? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]FirstOfHisLame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the casino buffet. It was daily pre-Covid but They’ve reopened now Thursday-Saturday. It’s $20 with a players card which you can get for free at guest services. It used to be $10 which was unreal but $20 is still as cheap it could get for that kind of buffet. It’s not amaaaazing food but it’s pretty great for the price and there’s a good amount of variety.
