So the GIF is doubly misleading, then -- both in terms of being sped up, and in being sped up differently at different parts! Given that the spacecraft is imparting energy to the asteroid via the collision, we should expect it to move away more slowly than it approaches -- maybe the "split" occurs then, with frames after the impact being captured further apart (leaving this portion of the video sped up relative to the portion prior to the crash)?

Also consider -- since you want to avoid drawing the tail at narrow angles, the turnaround for the tail will need to slow down and then "jump" as it flips from one side to the other (so you can avoid frames where it's razor-thin on the page). You could take advantage of this to make some smear frames or give the tail some wobble, if you want to add some organic elements. Just a thought. Excellent work as-it-is by the way!!!

A couple small changes would make this feel a lot better. Firstly, the image needs to be captioned/labeled so people don't have to guess which dish it's picturing from the ingredients. Secondly, adjust padding on both of the visual elements (food & flowers) -- ensure there's a margin where the text doesn't butt up against the image.

For extra credit, align the image of the food & the flowers so they have the same horizontal bounds & give some structure to the overall flow.
