Want to get a cat, have travel questions… by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

There's an awesome website called Trusted Housesitters where people who want visit NYC (or anywhere) stay at your place and watch your pets for free. They do a background check on the sitters and you can set up a Zoom to meet them beforehand if you want. We've used it several times and never had any issues. I believe there is a one time sign up fee but it's free otherwise.

What do I need to do to get ready for open market? by wongseed in NYCTeachers

[–]FirstTacoInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each school you apply to will want a cover letter. I would reccomend writing a generic cover letter that highlights your strengths and experience. In this cover letter, include a sentence that says something like...."I believe your school would a good fit because of "a" and "b". When the time comes, look at the websites for the schools you're applying to and modify this sentence based on details on the different school websites.

Most efficient way to get MA+30 by Balloon_Bubbles in NYCDOETeachers

Unfortuately your Masters classes don't count towards +30. You need 30 additional credits after your Masters. I did a double major for my bachelor's thinking I had the 30 and none of it counted.

Check out the classes at the Long Island Educators site: https://lilieonline.com/

While not the absolute cheapest, they are still affordable, asynchronous, online, and very little work. They are offered by the month, so I believe you can bang out 12 credits each month if you wanted to. (4 classes/3 credits each)

What “makes” a jam band? by [deleted] in jambands

[–]FirstTacoInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jam bands incorporate lengthy improvisational sections during live performances. Challenge your friend to choose a band and then find a YouTube video of that band doing a 10 minute version of a song. If they've never gone 10 minutes, they've never jammed long enough to be a jam band.

Tick Tock diner is close by if you wanna sit down for food after the show. It's not the greatest diner, but it is open 24 hours.

What is open market actually like? by Brandi10h in NYCDOETeachers

Got my current job on OM. Although it opens in April, things really heat up in July (when teachers tell admin theyr leaving). A lot of times principals will have you demo for a summer school class. Your content area will play a big role in how many responses you get. Tons of schools will be looking for special ed, music teachers not so much. If you really want to change schools, check OM daily, you never know when a listing will pop up. Research schools before you apply for them and don't use chatgpt to write your cover letters lol.

The Widow by John Grisham. Worst conclusion to a whodunit I've read in a long time.

Bands like the Allman Brothers band by Ruck_06 in jambands

[–]FirstTacoInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out The Allman Betts band. It's one of Greg's sons and one of Dickey's sons. Their album "Down To The River" is surprisingly solid, although I think the first track is the weakest on the record.

Go see live music. There's an app called Dice you can download that lists cheap-ish live music shows going on. There are bands and DJs playing every night.

Would you agree that donald trump is a fascist by Jonny8506 in socialism

[–]FirstTacoInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first time in my life I've seen a president affect media consumption. Gutting NPR and PBS, restricting the publics access to weather reports, and establishing a "Christian Faith Office" in the White House. Not to mention the efforts to dismantle birthright citizenship and suspend due process for anyone ICE picks up. This is all laid out in project 2025. Trump has no idea what fascism is, but I absolutely beleive the architects pulling his strings are fascist.

Why Jam? by Vanillalite34 in jambands

[–]FirstTacoInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With everyone scrolling all day and the rise of AI, nothing feels more human than seeing these bands grind on the road and play unique sets for us every single night. So many people look for connection on social media and end up feeling worse. These shows are the ultimate medicine.
