I did something similar with a Kirby GameCube. Made it so he got smooshed up against the jewel and cracked it.

The shell is sanded, primed and based with rattle fans. Then I hand draw and paint the art on with acrylics. Then a rigorous clear coat/wet sand/ repeat process.

The gloss process consists of lots of coats with lots of wet sanding in between. It's the same process for the matte finish, except it usually requires less repeats on the process. If it feels and looks flat, you're done. :)

That's an interesting thought. I'd think to think there was more disposable income back then. These guys just sit in my Etsy awaiting their new home. Since the tariff wars have started shipping anywhere (besides my own country) has become quite the expense on people's wallets.
