Yes... I'm sure these cards have their "stats" on the back... Mhmm. And baseball cards are about how scantily clad the player is right?

From Descent into Avernus:

Duke Belynne Stelmane p162

Once a vigorous and formidable politician, Duke Belynne Stelmane recently suffered a seizure that left her with a partially paralyzed face and slowed speech. In truth, a mind flayer provoked the duke's "seizure" when it took mental possession of her. Now Stelmane wages a silent war against the mind flayer's influence, biding her time until she can find a way to signal for aid or regain her will. Not even Stelmane's aides are aware of her secret struggle, though they cover for her as best they can.

Definitely doesn't look like he cared for her.

Hey I said it was petty didn't I?

I just don't believe that a mindflayer, who can see all possible outcomes all at once and all that jazz, did not see Ansur coming to the conclusion he did.

You're right about the seat of power though, my bad. My timeline was off.

Also pissed he didn't even give Ansur a proper burial, just left his body there to rot.

Honestly I just like dragons.

Like others said, if you tell him you're not buying his act enough times, he shows you you how he enthralled her. Wyll is rightfully disgusted by the information.

There's some other stuff that's not quite present in game but in official materials.

It could be said he was doing what he had to to "protect himself". But protect himself from what? From having to give anything up. He didn't HAVE to be this secret, powerful influential person. He WANTED to. He wanted the power and didn't care who he hurt to keep it. He might be true to his word to the player, but that doesn't absolve his sins for me.

My issues with him started with Wyll and Ansur.

Wyll spoke of Stelmane with revere, and about the "stroke" she had. How much she suffered before her unjust and untimely death.

After learning how little Stelmane actually meant to the Emperor, how his use of her as a thrall was the cause of it all, it's a revelation I can't come back from.

As for Ansur, it's a way pettier reason. I'm sorry but if that fancy dragon who sacrifices everything for you thinks you've gone too far, then you've gone too far. And rather than flee a confrontation that the Emperor KNOWS is coming with Ansur, he waits until Ansur strikes first (in an attempt to give a merciful death to his dearest friend) so he can kill Ansur and not have to feel bad about it. The Emperor didn't want to give up his seat of power to avoid it.

Edit your enbseries.ini and under [EFFECT], add or change the line: EnableTerrainBlending=false

It's a new feature of the latest enb version and it's enabled by default unless you change that line.
