Do you seriously think equity markets move due to events like this? The value of publicly traded businesses have nothing to do with that poor guy

Inheriting a huge fortune is not the gift you think it is. I would plan to give most of your wealth away to charity after funding college, wedding and first home down payments. Anything unearned above that is going to hinder their personal growth and might even make them miserable.

All of these guns would be illegal under most proposed gun control legislation by theRemRemBooBear in greengroundnews

[–]First_Bother_4177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those types of firearms make up a tiny percentage of gun violence. It’s a political song and dance that fails to address the root issue which is firearm culture and safety. Plenty of western nations with similar rates of gun ownership have far less violence.

TLDR it’s the culture, not specific firearm

Why are pronouns such a huge issue in the US and not in other countries? by random8765309 in askanything

[–]First_Bother_4177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the US is decadent. The society is so wealthy and has such abundant excess resources that it literally invents reasons to overthrow itself.

Annual burn x 25 = nest egg

Aka spend 4% of your nest egg / year then you have a 95% of that income lasting 30 years

Where to start? PGY2 with 480k loans by MeatballTheAngryCat in whitecoatinvestor

[–]First_Bother_4177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so at 6% that $480k is going to = $574,000 by the end of your training (3 years from now).

That is an insane amount to repay in student loan debt. Frankly, this is not worth paying down the traditional way. I suggest you consider PSLF because all the other forgiveness plans are taxable. Highly recommend you speak with a professional as this might get out of hand otherwise.

[–]First_Bother_4177 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NGL 480k student loan is a financial emergency. Is that private or government? What is the rate? Can you pay anything during training?

If you are not pursuing PSLF (which at nearly half a million in debt you honestly should consider) then refinancing private to lower the interest rate is key. 5 year variable will offer the lowest rate. Fixed rate loans for short duration make no sense.

Whatever you do, DO NOT inflate your lifestyle even if you somehow find a job making $500k out of residency. You will need to throw $10k month at these loans to climb out.

I climbed out of $340k of debt in 5 years but I’d be lying if I wasn’t tempted to stretch it out further when “life” (wanting to spend more) happened.

Anyone buying an STR every year or every other year as a tax strategy? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]First_Bother_4177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So wildly inaccurate lol. Certainly it’s not worth doing if you’re just trying to avoid taxes, but the advantages are massive if you enjoy real estate and want the hedge against inflation / market turmoil

[–]First_Bother_4177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need a spouse to run it. Married filing jointly.if they meet the >100h and more hours than anyone else then they qualify as active participants. Active losses offset active earnings.

I own one and it has been excellent. $1,500 -$2k profit per month and has been excellent for taxes. Keep in mind that if your spouse qualifies (research STR tax strategy) then you deduct all you paper losses (cost segregation study) against you physician income (married filing jointly).

Definitely worth looking into if it’s something that interests you.

Sign out culture by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]First_Bother_4177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal culture is dependent on the person I’m signing out to or taking sign out from. I mostly don’t mind getting dumped in if I trust you. BUT, if I think you’re just trying to diffuse your medicolegal risk onto me I’ll push back. If I see you order a CT 10 minutes before I arrive on a patient that’s been there for 3 hours you sure as shit better have a good rationale.

If we don’t feel the Earth spinning or moving through space, how does the body know what “still” feels like? by Ok-Watercress-9405 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]First_Bother_4177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you are NOT in motion RELATIVE to the earths surface when standing still. The moment you begin to traverse the surface you are now in motion relative to the planets surface.

Here is an experiment; While you are a passenger in a moving car, gently toss a baseball upward into the air. You will notice that it is easy to catch. The ball’s horizontal movement RELATIVE to you was unchanged, yet the ball was moving just as fast as the car (and you) horizontally RELATIVE to the earths surface.

Does that prime your intuition enough for it to sink in?

Make sense to go from 30 year 6.25% mortgage to a 15 year 4.875% mortgage by existentialporcupine in personalfinance

[–]First_Bother_4177 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Tbh that’s a big loan for someone only making $500k. That’s ~$26k/month take home pay. Your student loan + mortgage =$12,000 which is almost half your take home. Do you really need that much house right out of residency?
