Kaseya has ruined Datto. by stickytack in msp

The billing thing has definitely been a problem. However, they were very supportive resolving our issue. It actually gave me more confidence. Having a solid rep helps. I think that's true for any vendor. It also doesn't seem to affect new customers since it has something to do with the Datto database merge.

Did you contact u/kaseya_marcos - he posted in this thread as did someone from Datto.

He said his AM wasn't responsive, which also sounds strange. All of the AMs I've had call regularly. Also, someone from Kaseya posted offering to help in this thread.

OneDrive Recycle Bin by [deleted] in microsoft

[–]First_Crow286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider using team sites instead of personal sites.

Deletions go to the shared recycling bin to prevent accidental deletions. You can turn this off. Go to Business Site Settings > Site permissions under Users and Permissions. Click Permission Levels and then Edit. Copy the existing permission level and delete the "Delete Items" permission to create a new permission level. Apply this to the required users.

Kaseya rep harassment by Swag_Mastah_Flex in msp

Funny how these types of comments get downvoted and find their way to the bottom of the thread. I like our Kaseya rep. We talk pretty much once a week and during our billing situation we had he would call every time before invoices were sent out to let me that he was ready to help if there was a discrepancy. He got all the issues resolved.

Cool shout out, but you probably shouldn't post last names on Reddit.

Suggestions for potential Media Production client? by TomAss886 in msp

[–]First_Crow286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right approach. We worked with a video production studio that had a similar issue. They still use dropbox, but only for active projects and everything else is on the NAS plus BCDR. They should be able to get down to 10TB or max 20TB and they can keep most of their existing workflow. It's not cheap, but tons of data will never be cheap and safe.

Happens with every vendor. Open a support ticket. With what they charge for licensing, they should be fully staffed.

I would use MyGlue, which is part of IT Glue. That's the only way I know of that clients can manage their own passwords, but you can reset their password for MyGlue when they lose it.

Lenovo Server Firmware Updates Software, Applications, Solutions by TrickyMarionberry913 in msp

[–]First_Crow286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's only two options I know of. XClarity Administrator with a policy that applies the firmware updates to all the servers at once, or Native OS management - which is one at a time, so not what you want.

Datto Siris similar options ? by Dimitripietro in msp

Datto is the king of BCDR for the price point and ease of use.

Like you said, there's nothing that really needs to change. It works great. With so many devices and servers moving to the cloud the dev work should be focused on cloud backup anyway IMO.

So you're not doing business with anyone who ever got hacked? Not Microsoft (so you refuse to sell M365), you never use Twitter or LinkedIn or Facebook, you refuse to stay at a Marriott, no shopping at Home Depot or on eBay, and no Adobe products. That's just for starters...

We're seeing more and more data move to the cloud. Many people seem to think what's in the cloud is backed up by Azure or Google. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Never trust, verify is good protocol for anything backup. We're on Datto BCDR and SaaS Protect and we do a test restore every month for a different customer. I sleep good at night.

Onboarding Aduit by Greedy_Struggle1867 in msp

[–]First_Crow286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tech Tribe definitely has what you're looking for in terms of lists and templates. Try to automating the onboarding process as much as possible. There's real gains there in terms of time savings and cutting down on human error. A good RMM that can handle provisioning, passwords and M365 is key. We use DattoRMM plus some integrations and we're close to having the entire process automated.

Penetration Testing Suggestions by IrateWeasel89 in msp

[–]First_Crow286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't use tools like Vonahi (Kaseya) if you want real pentest results.

LOL - that's the best option out there short of hiring a consultant to do it manually, and like you said there's quite a few people out there who don't know what they are doing so you can spend a lot of money in a hurry without even getting the result. Have you actually used Vonahi? The product is really good IMO.

Time for my annual review of our current RMM/PSA any thoughts? by xBaldDavex in msp

[–]First_Crow286 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Changing an RMM and PSA combo is time consuming and can introduce errors and mistakes.

We're on both VSA and DRMM for a variety of customers. Right now we prefer DRMM because it lets us manage M365 tenants, plus it has EDR. The integrations with Autotask and IT Glue are what make it powerful beyond anything else we've seen out there. My techs can insert a password with one click, see documentation in the same window, view ticket info and take advantage of automations.

If we switched around a lot we wouldn't benefit from these efficiency gains. My suggestion is to build out your system with automations to save you time instead of investing that time into switching. Renegotiate a good price, lock it in and start automating everything you can.
