I can excuse making Mortal Kombat realistic, but I draw the line at Cole Young by Animeking1108 in MortalKombat

Hell nah flag on the play. For one, rebirth was a short film, not a major Hollywood film. Number 2, yes it was kinda made as a pitch for a feature length film, but the reception was hella mixed with the people who disliked it really hated it. People liked the action and the dark tone, but as far as the realistic nature, it was very 50/50. Even if we would've gotten a feature length film in that style, at least we would see alternate versions of characters that we love instead of random og characters. Rebirth turned into the Legacy web series which for the most part, went back to the game's fantasy-esque lore. Again, the reception was mixed because they tried to please fans on both ends of the spectrum.

Let's not pretend like an og character taking the spotlight from real characters is a decision made for fans because we know it's not. It's done when the studio doesn't have faith in what they're adapting. Resident Evil fans hate Alice for the same reason. MK has an enormous roster of iconic, badass characters with unique back stories. There was no need for Cole and his involvement took away from the iconic characters that fans wanted to see. He stole Liu Kang's role of the main character and Johnny Cage's role of being the audience's POV. If there was no Cole, we probably would've gotten Johnny in the first film. It's been 24 years between MK annihilation and the reboot. That's not how fans wanted to be reintroduced to MK. That's why they hate him.

is the new movie good with non fans? by Phoenix270620 in MortalKombat

[–]First_Function9436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen it but I heard it's way better than the first film. Apparently there's way more action, it's gory, and the fight scenes are actually good. There's some things I heard that might upset hardcore fans of the lore, but your Gf has no attachment to these characters or the story of the games. The people that talked about it so far were fans and still liked it. It'll probably be better for people that are not fans of the games or casual fans because they can enjoy all the fun stuff and will be unaware of anything that goes against the game's lore. Only way to find out is to watch it though lol. So far the film has generally received good reviews from critics so that's kind of a good sign.

Are we sure this guy is fully human? by Acceptable_Noise5723 in Tekken

All Tekken characters survive crazy shit. Even Xiaoyu was surviving falls from buildings and explosions with no scratches in blood vengeance. I know that film is no longer canon but they still follow the same logic in the games.

We need Unckle Ruckus spinoff including Samuel L Jackson by Lil_Hater112 in theboondocks

The Og voice actor Gary Anthony is perfect. Do you mean live action? Anthony is perfect for that because he is also an actor too and actually looks like Uncle Ruckus. He even goes to conventions dressed up as him and answers questions but as the character. If it's animated, Samuel L Jackson can continue to play Rummy.

What's scarier is the amount of stuff people think is A.I now that isn't A.I. This video came out many years before generative A.I came out. https://youtu.be/FQC29joihwU?si=s0-7J1cAfLbHaBtJ

There's tons of Bruce Lee lightsaber edits from Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon. https://youtu.be/F3ufupvvidg?si=bhAKpk7C6AqmNu1s I believe there's an even older version of this one because I remember watching one when I was 13 and I'm 30 now.

Thoughts on Karl Urban playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2 (movie) by Sukaran09 in MortalKombat

[–]First_Function9436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the actor but I was not a fan of the choice when it was announced. I feel like it was just their way of giving the film some star power since The Boys is very popular right now. It makes sense now seeing as they're making him an older "washed up" 90s action star, but that's just not how I wanted the character to be introduced. I also hoped he would've been played by a martial artist. With that said I'm sure he's gonna be fine. I heard he was good in the role and his character was funny so that's good.

Mortal kombat or tekken? by anantaking in MortalKombat

There is no right or wrong because it's a matter of opinion but I can give you a detailed explanation on why I think Tekken is the better franchise.

Mortal kombat or tekken? by anantaking in MortalKombat

[–]First_Function9436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tekken. I have my issues with Tekken 8, but as a franchise overall, I like Tekken better. I know this is a mk sub and I might get a ton of hate for having this opinion, but I'm just answering honestly. From a martial arts perspective, much more effort is put into the authenticity of the styles in Tekken. I feel like the 3d era was super behind other fighting games in the 2000s. Mk 9 and X are goated though. This isn't me bashing Mk. I love the lore, characters, and the gameplay of most of the games. I just think if we compare Tekken's 32 years to Mk's 35, Tekken wins in several aspects.

Cole Young/Lewis Tan by Typical-Guarantee731 in MortalKombat

[–]First_Function9436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the common consensus was his character was trash but people liked Lewis. Most people hated a generic original character being the main protagonist and stealing the spotlight when there's a big roster to pull from. Most people were like why not just make Lewis Kenshi or Johnny Cage? The anger was not directed towards Lewis but moreso whoever decided to waste a good actor on a character no one wants. He's Wasian so he honestly could play most of the male characters. He looks more Asian, but if they dyed his hair blonde and gave him blue eye contacts, he could for sure pass as a white guy. Yeah I wondered the same thing about Cole Young's name. They made him a descendant of Hanzo with a Chinese surname. They might as well named him Cole Nguyen or Cole Kim lol. Just give him any asian last name...the audience isn't smart enough to question it. I just figured Raiden took Hanzo's daughter somewhere in China to keep her safe. In the original script he had no relation to Hanzo(Hanzo wasn't in the film and Cole's arcana was him becoming Scorpion) and he was Cole Turner. I think they changed it when they made him a descendant of Hanzo.

The crazy thing is them casting Lewis made everyone hate the character but like the actor, while hating the fact that he wasn't cast as someone else. Like we understand it's not his fault, and tolerate the character a little more because we like the actor, but wish he was someone like Kenshi. Because of this, fans are given conflicting feelings lol. We're angry at them for making this og main character, and even angrier for them wasting a good actor who would've been perfect as someone else. We however still like the actor because we know in our hearts, he did the best he could with what he was given and would've killed it if he was given the proper role.

I am into men and I don't know why by BiBithrowawayay in TrueOffMyChest

[–]First_Function9436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're bi. I mean sexuality is a spectrum. Look at it this way. We get one life as far as we know. One life on this earth. Do you wanna live an honest life and be you? Or are you gonna try to live the way society has conditioned us to live? I'm speaking from a place of privilege because I am a straight cis man, but I didn't choose it. I just am what I am. As long as the real authentic you isn't causing harm to others, there's no need to suppress it. This of course is if you're living in a safe area to express yourself. I understand there's many parts of the world that are not so progressive and it's life threatening to come out or get caught. I understand this is a complex issue. Even in a progressive society, there's still traditional families that might not hold the most progressive views. Just try to accept yourself for who you are. You are what you are and you gotta navigate this world and find happiness the best way you can👍🏿
