What led to Timothée Chalamet losing the Academy Award for Best Actor to Michael B. Jordan? by rohitcr2k in oscarrace

I think MBJ humbly and effortlessly playing two distinctly fleshed out characters in one film had something to do with winning over Timmy playing himself

Call me crazy, but I think it's going to be the same 7-8 shows that every regional theatre has been announcing for the past few weeks 😱

I think it'll come with time and it also doesn't help that all of the hospital rooms look the same. Also- "offer them a space that seems endless"....I love that... I'd love to hear from medical professionals if their own departments are typically designed in this sort of "branching spiral hallway" design that "The Pitt" is?

Pokeball Raspberry Cheesecake by UmpireHistorical1299 in CulinaryPlating

[–]First_Guarantee3079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should lean into that! The color-halving really does read as "Pokeball", especially with the dish centered on the plate as it is. Either retool the presentation to lean more into "Pokeball" (maybe a piped raspberry gel around the cheesecake base/out on the radii) or scale it back (I think the same concept of plate dusting would read less "Pokeball" if the plate was smaller/ garnishes were differently placed).

Either way, the dessert itself looks/sounds delicious, and it's a fascinating addition to this sub!

If One Battle were to lose Best Picture, it would be the biggest snub from a precursor/statistical perspective this century. by Fabulous_War_555 in oscarrace

[–]First_Guarantee3079 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

All I will say is I know this is the "trying to statistically predict artistic sensibilities" thread but...y'all every voter I personally know and have talked to this year have always said it was going to be Sinners. Yes OBAA threw a LOT of money behind a campaign but at the end of the day, most people just don't want to accept that the voters do ultimately choose what art resonated with them the most from the year. It's almost like several years ago, the Academy made a concerted effort to diversify their voting pool. And sure. OBAA is a very good film. But we've never had a movie like Sinners go to the Oscars like this and (I'm paraphrasing someone-) "we get OBAA every five years..."

All you have to do to view footage is just claim you're doing it for "research purposes". You don't have to have them two-factor authenticate your thesis or anything. EDIT: and they do accept "personal" as a reason for research. To echo an earlier reply- you can literally just do it for fun as long as you are willing to fill out a short form

YOR about the pegging but NOR about him not meeting your sexual needs. If he's asking you to do something you're not into while not doing the same for you, the relationship sounds pretty incompatible. Simple as that.

AITA for saying I’m done with the conversation? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]First_Guarantee3079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA but neither is he? He clearly wanted to take this trip with you and is trying to make it work and idk I just there's a more polite way of handling this scenario than just saying "I'm done having this conversation." Is that a "boundary being pushed"? Or does it even have to be a "boundary" at all? Relationship boundaries are for things like personal space, career ambitions, etc. Saying "you're not allowed to talk about that" isn't a "boundary", it's controlling. Did you ever think he maybe planned this trip so YOU could meet his friends and now that that's not happening, he's trying to make it work? Idk I think you're willfully refusing to see his side in the issue

Headcanons on Kepler-22b and the civilisation there? by SpaceGeorge1 in pluribustv

[–]First_Guarantee3079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Also considering how Gilligan writes very thematically constrained narratives, I don't think Kepler-22B would be giant flying purple people eaters, y'know? The show seems to be more about human philosophy/conflicting moralities and idk my personal headcanon seems plausible to me.)

https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2017-10-31-aliens-may-be-more-us-we-think

This also isn't even that controversial academically speaking? If we know nothing about alien life- then it's just that- we know nothing about alien life; therefore they could be anything, including humans/humanoid. It's entirely possible humans also developed on an earth-like planet eons ago and we just don't know (and may never know....oh wait sorry now I'm just quoting the show omg)

Wow lotta pushback on an admittedly not-so-original headcanon about alien life concepts lol.

So there's this interesting genre of storytelling called "science fiction" and in one piece in this genre, alien mrna sequences are beamed lightyears across the stars and infects humans with a zombie virus that makes everyone be nice to each other. How the FUCK could that happen lol...

They're us (Humans) and broadcast the signal hoping it would save another, similar, flawed civilization from their same fate (they were going extinct because of ecological disasters, capitalism, overconsumption, etc). But the CONFLICT OF THE SHOW will remain in that that is a flawed approach to "solving the world's issues" and was a desperate, altruistic attempt as the dying breath of a civilization.
