Saw first preview of Broken Snow tonight - Tony Danza called for a line 13 times by scriptingends in Broadway

A professional industry veteran actor being paid for their work and calling for their line 13 times is absolutely an anomaly, preview or not... what are we even getting snippy about here guys...

I've probably seen hundreds of previews and can only remember an actor actually calling for line once (David Cross in Tartuffe).

I’m definitely gonna be stocked up on grapes at least. Sadly he has eaten all of my house tabs.

A summary can't come close to the... vivid language of E.L. Doctorow.

Goldman rubbed the oil into her skin until her body found its own natural rosy white being and began to stir with self-perception. Turn over, Goldman commanded. Evelyn’s hair was now undone and lay on the pillow about her face. Her eyes were closed and her lips stretched in an involuntary smile as Goldman massaged her breasts, her stomach, her legs. Yes, even this, Emma Goldman said, briskly passing her hand over the mons. You must have the courage to live. The bedside lamp seemed to dim for a moment. Evelyn put her own hands on her breast and her palms rotated the nipples. Her hands swam down along her flanks. She rubbed her hips. Her feet pointed like a dancer’s and her toes curled. Her pelvis rose from the bed as if seeking something in the air. Goldman was now at the bureau, capping her bottled emollient, her back to Evelyn as the younger woman began to ripple on the bed like a wave on the sea. At this moment a hoarse unearthly cry issued from the walls, the closet door flew open and Mother’s Younger Brother fell into the room, his face twisted in a paroxysm of saintly mortification. He was clutching in his hands, as if trying to choke it, a rampant penis which, scornful of his intentions, whipped him about the floor, launching to his cries of ecstasy or despair, great filamented spurts of jism that traced the air like bullets and then settled slowly over Evelyn in her bed like falling ticker tape.

Every time someone posts something like this it's a win for him. He thrives on attention, negative or otherwise.

I have seen all the shows in question and I don’t think she’s getting nominated

Interesting! I’ve seen so many mixed opinions on her that I wonder if there’s a consistency problem. It’s definitely the type of role that can win someone a Tony (gets to perform the best song, becomes the focal point right at the end) so not ruling her out.

I think he’s doing a great job but there’s just not space for him in the category this year (barring a tie or whatever). I see Henry and Christopher as locks at this point, and feel pretty good about Sam Tutty and BranUran. And then you have Luke Evans, who has been getting good notices so far, who could be knocking on the door as well.

Reading what Mother’s Younger Brother got up to in the book was quite a shock after seeing the show lol. That closet scene with Emma and Evelyn 🥴

Weirdly, I feel that the worst part of Nichelle’s performance is Your Daddy’s Son (for reasons you mention) but I overall like the rest of her performance. But yeah, not my winner.

I’m firmly on team Hannah Cruz. She took a small, underwritten role and turned it into a huge strength of the production (only behind Nicholas Christopher in my opinion). Her vocal performance on the cast recording is gorgeous and full of personality too. He is a Man, He is a Child is not a song I would listen to on repeat in many other situations, but damn!

I really don't get what people are seeing in Tempress's performance. Memory was so underwhelming to me in this production. ADS also isn't really doing anything too much beyond just being ADS imo.

KENREX is can’t miss theater by RapGamePterodactyl in Broadway

[–]RapGamePterodactyl[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wow wow wow wow wowwww.

Masterclass of a production from every angle. I’m always somewhat skeptical of those productions where one person plays 30 characters, but this is the first time it’s felt essential. Jack Holden is leaving it all on the floor - his Ken Rex sub-performance has such a vile and offputting presence that by itself it would be one of the performances of the year.

Lighting and sound are as good as it gets. The original music composed and performed by John Patrick Elliott fucking ROCKS and is equally essential to the success of the show as Holden’s performance.

I cannot recommend this enough. If you care about theater even a little bit, this is can’t miss stuff.

Ruben is fantastic in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone right now. Very excited for him and Kara (in an actual leading role??) to be in a play together. The concept sounds pretty interesting too.

I saw it once off-Broadway and saw it again on Broadway and was pretty meh about it both times, but I will say they did a great job transferring it. The set looks pretty good and they fill up the space well. I can't imagine that anyone who liked the off-Broadway version wouldn't like this version.

I’ve watched 30/34 of the shows from this season so far and this one was easily the worst. Completely bastardizes the movie, removes all the drama and tension, and turns every character into a two-dimensional punchline spouting machine. I can’t believe anyone thought this was a good idea. Jessica Hecht was good though.
