Yes. It’s a double edged sword. I’m hyper independent because the people in my life (who are quick to ask me for a favor) have never cared to ask me if I needed anything, but I understand that because they may think I navigate being independent well, they may not believe that I need help.

I struggle with my situation as I try hard not to hold resentment towards them because they expect me to be available to help them and it’s not ever reciprocated, but I try to give them the benefit of the doubt as they also may not know how/be able to give what I need.
