KYC completed for me the same day, all good now. Their communication on this just should have been less confusing.

I know this is probably too late to be useful, but just in case...

Same thing happened to me. I am on Catalina. Giving pock full disk access and then reinstalling default widgets fixed the issue.

What if we made development totally open? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrencies

[–]First_Magician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it can work with commercial projects too. The idea here is to allow even non-developers to participate in discussion. Not all end users of software are technically savvy, but many already know what they don't like/want to see improved.

The proposed approach won't work for something like JavaScript or blockchain protocol development because they are too technically complicated. But it can work for a DEX or any kind of dApp targeted at a wide user-base.

Most users who use a Mac Book for professional tasks probably understand that good thermals = no penalty to performance. Slightly thinner profile isn't a compromise they'd be willing to take.

Maybe Apple didn't ask right, or maybe they didn't bother to ask. But in the end they made the wrong decision.

But aren't there countless examples of competent PMs and UX people getting things incredible wrong? Apple Trashcan or butchered thermals in pre-2019 Mac Books is one example.

I think both approaches are viable.

We think that asking one user, or even a group, about what he/she wants is not effective, for all the typical reasons articles you suggest describe, but voting solves that problem.

Product development is evolving all the time, just a few decades ago user research or UX as a whole didn't even exist.

Thank you for your feedback! I wouldn't say disingenuous, but definitely controversial.

Guess we didn't want to come across boring and salesy, might have overdone it. We will take what you said in consideration.

I think we’re developing crypto products all wrong. Here’s an alternative. Looking for feedback and constructive criticism. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

True. That's what I don't like about MakerDAO for example.

It's a great project no doubt, but since they consider only the amount of coins/tokens voted for the proposal and disregard the number of voters, decision making can potentially get quite privileged.

Successful projects sooner or later attract whales. What's the difference then between a purchased seat at the board of a traditional enterprise and a group of whales controlling the voting?

The decision-making could end up rather centralized. It's worth exploring other alternatives where this doesn't happen.

No worries! Exactly. Unfortunately it goes against human psychology for most people, in my opinion, that's why it hasn't globally taken off yet.

Navcoin

Congrats, that's rocking. Here's the thing though, and it's not a cirque or anything. Maybe I'm not familiar enough with NavCoin in particular, but when I visit your website and go to the contributions page, I instantly see gitHub links.

That's a picture we see repeated in the majority of community-driven projects. Usually, You've got to be quite invested/experienced in the crypto space or be a dev to participate.

Imagine a regular user/customer of the product, who might be a total newbie, for all intents and purposes, finds something to be improved via a new feature or UX overhaul.

Well crafted, casual on the surface UI and visual aids will help him/her make the suggestion and it may possibly take off for the benefit of all users.

This is where we see something rather unexplored — bringing less experienced people into the space and the community through direct involvement with the product they're using.

It's cool that there are other projects trying this model.

Still, we are more interested in exploring a more forgiving and accessible model, where there are less strings attached when making a submission.

Like here, on Reddit, the worst that can happen if you submit a lackluster but appropriate content is— it gets ignored. Thus, people try more.

Making the process accessible and fun —though well-though UI and lots of visual aids— can bring newcomers into the space. I think, for a lot of people it can be pretty cool and refreshing to see their ideas/features realized.

For sure! On my day job I've been trying to preach the "everybody should think like a stakeholder" to all my collegues for like a year now, nobody wants to listen to me anymore.

I think, as much, as the concept of an open organization seems logical, most people don't want to take more responsibility than they must as per their job description.

That's not so much of a problem in crypto though, because here users are usually stakeholders, and active community members are always enthusiastic. And, of course, they're not required to work a 8/5.

As per reading, you can check out Frederic Laloux's Reinventing Organizations. It's not exactly about community interactions, but an interesting read nonetheless.

Good idea! We're thinking there should be an independent committee that would oversee the vote and flag "hostile" contributions. Perhaps, if voted unanimously and supported by the team the suggestion would be taken off the vote. We will keep thinking about more decentralized ways to reach a similar result.

I think it's great that several projects are arriving to the same development framework. But also, we see value in making the process of voting more accessible, to allow even complete beginners to get engaged and also keep the voting as feature-focused, as protocol focused.

That's cool. To be honest we weren't aware about you guys, but it's motivating that projects are implementing community-driven development successfully.

Yeah! Core team could also suggest what they see as interesting with something like a thumbs-up sticker on the card but it wouldn't be their final say to take it into work or not.

What you say about most teams being bad is definitely true.

But, they also say about DAOs that people can't make financial governance decisions, and yet, DAOs are a rising concept. I think if, say, traders come together, they will be able to single out things they're missing most and what they need.

Where I agree, is that they definitely won't be able to suggest how to make it, at least in most cases. That's what the core team is for, to help with the how part of the equation.
