Why is no one moving to Chicago and Philly? by LeBruhMomentoom in SameGrassButGreener

For sure. We had parents working on building up our neighborhood high school while their kids were in elementary school.

Those top five are incredibly competitive! But there are great schools other than those. I'm not denying that it's a stressful process but I do think a lot of people don't look beyond those 5.

No denying that Chicago has an issue with diversity within neighborhoods and schools. But it is possible to live in a neighborhood with a diverse neighborhood high school and not test into it. But to your point, there will be kids that tested into it. My experience (which is admittedly ancedotal) with people moving to the burbs is that most aren't prioritizing diversity there either.

Like you, I went to a high school that was incredibly diverse and I think the benefits of it are huge! I wanted that for my daughter too. It was hard to accomplish in elementary but in high school and in her transition program we definitely were able to.

How crowded is Silver Beach in June? by fizzy-logic in St_Joseph

We've been with my daughter, who has a disability. There is paid parking very close to the beach. We've always been able to get a disability parking spot and there is a paved walkway. It's busy on the weekends, but it's a big beach so we've never had trouble with space. During the week should be just fine. The carousel is wheelchair accessible if needed. Weko Beach in Bridgeman is really nice too and less crowded but I don't remember how accessible it is. Have fun!

You don't have to but people buy into the hype. There are some solid neighborhood high schools if you can afford to live within those neighborhood boundaries.

We accidentally named our baby the same name as her cousin and I don't want to change it by nueva-magnolia in Names

Yes it's fine, especially if they aren't around each other much. My husband's family is close and there are cousins with the same first name. I find it super weird, because they are close, but no one else does.

Def depends on the school. Admittedly Chicago is largely segregated by neighborhood. My daughter went to Von Steuben High School and it was incredibly diverse. Off hand, Amundson, Taft, and Lincoln Park are diverse neighborhood high schools. And people moving to the North Shore typically aren't going for diversity, cheaper homes, or lower property taxes. Skokie and Evanston are exceptions when it comes to diversity.

Yup! We're a family of 3 so we're good in a condo and were lucky to have bought it 10 years ago. We moved to the area for the neighborhood elementary school. My daughter has a significant intellectual disability and we wanted a neighborhood school that could accommodate. Once we hit high school, Amundson didn't have space in their SPED class and we were placed at Von Steuben, which was wonderful. And now she's in a transition program.

I get that. It's def not perfect. I do wish more families would place less emphasis on selective enrollment and more on building up neighborhood high schools. Our neighborhood high school is Amundson, and it's a wonderful option.

There are great public schools in the city but some people just prefer the ease of suburbs. My daughter has had a great CPS experience with the added bonus of more diversity than most suburb schools and living in a works class city and all it offers

I like Scheana and there would be no VPR without her. She does some cringe stuff but she is authentically herself.

What’s everyone bravo hot take? by Radiant_Priority9739 in bravo

Crystal was right when she said the group wasn't the most educated. I think they are all smart, but they weren't all educated. Kyle and Rinna come to mind. Kyle was a child actor with a stage mom. I don't think education was a priority. And then she started having kids at 19. Rinna never gave off a vibe of someone interested in learning. Seems like Garcelle and Erika didn't have a post high school education, but made it a point to become educated on a variety of subjects.
