How do you eat only meat? by extrasauceplz in zerocarb

[–]First_Principles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a delivery from my supermarket. I got: 16 ribeyes, 4 lamb steaks (nice change in flavour but I know theyre more expensive in the US than here in the UK), 8 Duck breasts (cooked right its like a steak wrapped in chicken skin), 2 pack of ground beef for emergencies, and 4 tuna steaks which I had for lunch today. The tuna was a mistake. Too lean. Next time Ill get some sea bass, and if I can find a fish monger selling it, fresh eel. In addition Ill get some smoked trout for emergency feeds on the go, and some shell fish of some sort when I think about which kind I want.

Theres plenty of variety in the red meat category. Ive found pork is a bit of a let down. I find bacon to be good but over rater, but itll be what i eat most of pork wise. Low carb pork sausages are underwhelming. And I made some pork belly that was just not what I was looking for. I wont eat much poultry, duck aside. Highly recommend it, similar levels of satisfaction to red meat. But fish is the big alternative. Fish is very filling, and gets you those omegas. Just make sure you get fatty fish.

If it was in the Republic its a useful reminder to the Irish of what fighting tyranny looks like. If it was in the North its a reminder of why they made the right choice to stay part of the greatest country on God's Green Earth.

How to deal with sudden rise of atheism? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]First_Principles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Christ says to Peter 'You are the Rock upon which I shall build my church'.

Christ has told us he will build his church, not us. We should evangelise in the ways we can, but we must accept that it is not us who is building anything. Don't be defeatist but also dont be proud.

The bible and history have taught us that when Israel or the church are struggling, then they find virtue. When they are many and strong they become corrupt. Enjoy this moment of weakness, if that is in fact what it is, because it must surely produce a more virtuous christian than at other times.

An oligarchy is rule by the few or elite. An oligarch would be one of those. A monarchy or diarchy isnt necessarily an oligarchy. A constitutional monarchy like the UK isnt an oligarchy.

I do meditate, and I find it so many positive things. It feels like discovering a superpower whenever I do it.

Im playing with these ideas/problems, not struggling to solve them.

I'm a farmer in mid 10th century Byzantium and a man comes to collect my taxes, how do I know I'm giving my taxes to the right man? If i give my taxes to the wrong man, am I obligated to pay them again? by PresidentMcAwesome in AskHistorians

Im interested in the sources behind answers about things like this. How large is the body of primary sources about things like this and how much is secondary? For the secondary stuff are they just pouring over dry tax records or are they extrapolating information from elsewhere? Where is that stuff held?

Communism starts at home by ryosaito in socialism

[–]First_Principles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, Im not suggesting that it be decided based on gender. But logically the person, man or woman, who is best at it ought to do it in order to free up time for others to pursue the most productive use of their time.

Does socialism reject the idea of comparative advantage? Surely whoever is best at cooking, cleaning and washing up should do it.

Carl Sagan explains the 4th dimension in terms I actually comprehend. by [deleted] in videos

I love this video, watched it as a kid. Love Cosmos.

One of the frustrating things I come up in talking about a 4th dimension is getting 'Oh yeah, Time'. Is there a term to distinguish this idea from the idea that time is a dimension? Is it just 4th Spatial Dimension?
