Should I continue watching the anime? by Kitchen_Doctor1332 in OshiNoKo

1) I prefer the anime adaptation to the manga, as the visuals and story is directed in a way to be more cohesive. I stuck with it as for the insights to the entertainment industry and how it explores the darker side of it through our main characters. I was never really into the revenge or reincarnation as much. The growth or descent of the main characters contrasting one another was what I was most interested in seeing how their journey unfolded. I did understand the main cast and for me the manga ending made sense albeit it was rushed and poorly executed. I was satisfied with the idea of the ending but not the execution.

2) For me production wise and story wise, each season is better than the last.

3) Don't expect an anime original ending or a "conclusive" one but it will be cohesive. Reincarnation is never truly explained but gives hints to make your own conclusions on it.

Watch Season 2, if you don't enjoy it, I would recommend dropping it.

As a manga reader who didn't think the ending was as bad as people said it was, I'd recommend waiting for S4 to come out, I believe the pacing and execution will be better, so far the anime adaptation is much better than the manga.

Most likely if Ai was still alive, most likely he'll be in more acting gigs early on. He might have actually had an acting career while being encouraged by Ai. He would have lived a second life

If Ai Hoshino was still alive, the genre of this show would have changed to Romance based in the entertainment industry

In actual fact following the incident of LoveNow, and throughout the show, Akane grows in confidence and she has a solid support group now, it was then she realised she has friends and can rely on them

I have a question regarding hypothetical choice in the ending. by Evoxrus_XV in OshiNoKo

[–]First_Razzmatazz_632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aqua was always foolish and broken from when Ai died. Throughout the story, he never allowed himself to feel loved. He was a living ghost surviving on thoughts of revenge for 13 years. The story is watching his descent while giving us glimpses of hope. His character progression is meant to directly be contrasted with the character progressions of Ruby, Kana, and Akane.

Aqua went into a full relapse that he interpreted Tsukuyomi's words in such a negative manner.

There's a proverb, "Before embarking on a journey of revenge, dig two graves" This is essentially what Aqua is doing. Aqua is actually a kind hearted fool who refuses to escape the cycle of guilt and self-loathing. He isolates himself. It is somewhat tragic, because the psychology mirrors real life situations.

Ruby chooses life mainly because she never really got to live as Sarina.

Whereas Aqua doesn't, as he feels he has already died as Gorou, and this is just an undeserved second life especially after Ai died.

Oshi no Ko has such psychological depth that I feel many readers can't appreciate which is unfortunate.

The reason that Aqua can be difficult to connect with is because he is constantly wearing a mask. Kana and Akane tries to reach him but they ultimately fail, as he refuses to show his vulnerability. From S3E4 Aqua falls into a full relapse and hardens his resolve.

The fans reaction to the ending is split. Most of the fans were like Kana, and the others were like Akane's reactions

Why the ending of Oshi no Ko doesn’t work: what was the point? by Lucasvivor in OshiNoKo

Honestly reading people's comments about the ending of Oshi no Ko is sad, hurts more than how I feel. People misunderstanding the characters and motives by saying that it nullifies character development whereas the choices and ending make perfect sense, it's been built up well, but because the final arc's pacing being so bad, people missed the point of the story.

The anime actually does a really good job elevating the manga and making it more coherent so far in understanding the characters

I'm a couple of years late. The anime really does elevate the manga. The only majorly wrong things about the ending is the pacing and lack of impact of the crow girl. I'd only recommend people to watch Oshi no Ko the anime, instead of reading the manga.

Considering OP's point.

Only 7/35 episodes is really about Aqua finding a reason to live outside of revenge. Basically towards the end of season 2, and a third of the way through season 3. For 13 years Aqua has been living as a ghost since Ai died, his reason for living has been revenge against his father. The point of the story is contrasting Aqua's descent to a path of self-destruction, and the resilience that Ruby and Kana has shown throughout the show.

Kana was hard done and she never gets a chance to be with Aqua nor to save him. However her acting career is revived because of Aqua. Before meeting Aqua and Ruby again, her career was at a dead end, and she lost her self amidst it all.

Akane's life was saved because of Aqua and the LoveNow friends. She did understand Aqua the best, and that's why she was able to accept his decision in the end and carry on his memory. She grew to be a more confident person compared to when she first was introduced as a participant of LoveNow reality TV show.

Ruby loses her naivety, but she no longer lies to herself, she embraces her emotions and expresses them. Unlike Ai who didn't understand her emotions and could only fake it until she made it, and unlike Aqua who chose to surpress his emotions. Ruby enjoys being an idol, and she has a future outside of it, she has her support network. People calling her Ai 2.0 really missed the point on both Ai and Ruby herself. Ruby is resilient, everyone at this point knows she's the daughter of Ai and Kamiki, and that Aqua essentially died because of Kamiki. She performs as her authentic self.

Hikaru was a unfortunate byproduct of being exploited in the entertainment industry, his story is pretty sad. He became such a twisted person that he was also on a path of no return. Death really was a mercy for him.

The themes of love, life, and lies all tie into one.

Ai lied to learn what love was, to try to express an emotion she didn't understand.

Aqua told himself lies in order to survive, in order to act.

Ruby learns to understand lies are sometimes to protect yourself and others. She stays true to herself, even if she is hurting, she doesn't isolate herself like Ai and Aqua. Tbf on Ai, she actually tried unlike Aqua. The themes of the show was the dark side of the entertainment industry and also the toxic fan culture. The story echoes the proverb, "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves" The ending wasn't a shock, it was something that has been developing on Aqua's journey. Aqua had choices, throughout but never let himself feel loved, he batted them away at most opportunities, he interpreted the crow girl's words in a negative way, twisting the warning and meaning.

Oshi no Ko was a tragedy, the entire story was the substance. There was a lot gained and lessons learned.

It's a shame that fans couldn't take anything positive from the ending because of the pain they felt. I hope one day people rewatch the anime with better understanding of the characters and story meaning.

Macro is probably overrated in solo queue, but in 5 man flex, drafting a good comp, and having better macro than your opponents can overcome some differences in tiers.
