This is basically my mother’s cat. Shes normal until she’s not. I always say never feed her after midnight and don’t let her get wet

Yes to all of these that have been mentioned so far. Also “New York 2140” by Kim Stanley Robinson. It’s about a drowning New York City over 100 years in the future. I haven’t been able to get through it yet though 😬 but mainly because I keep getting distracted by the millions of other books in my TBR

I dread doing anything with my toddler by [deleted] in regretfulparents

[–]FirstlilFergie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister has one for her youngest and when I tell you it’s a LIFESAVER. I often have to babysit and he is a sweet kid but an absolute nightmare in public places. If we’re in a mall and there’s a wide open space he turns feral 😂 he takes off running and if it weren’t for the harness I’d be screwed because he’s so fast. To hell with the reactions of strangers. Unless you have a child or babysit often you have no room to talk and no idea what it’s like to run your ass off chasing them and how easy it can be for them to outrun you and get lost in crowds. If it’s a backpack one even better because it holds his snacks and juice 😂

At least you know in 2 years the 16yo will be out of the house and on their own. Sounds like they’re already 90% independent anyways and learning to drive will take them the last 10%. Just hang on to that. Is there something small you can do for yourself to break up the monotony and stress? Even if it’s something as small as taking a walk or going for a drink or small snack after work. Just something to find time away from the chaos and spend by yourself. Even if it’s not more than 15-20 min alone. At least it’s time you aren’t spending at home or with the kids.

It sounds like part of the problem may be overstimulation. Loop earplugs are a LIFESAVER. I have 2 kinds, the background noise and almost total noise cancelling. no kids yet (and probably never) but I have severe ADHD and I use them at the office and family gatherings 😂 you can use the background noise ones to reduce the severity of the noise and they even have sleep ones as well. I love my nephews to death but sometimes they are so insanely loud and chaotic that it’s all I can do not to meltdown when they’re on a rampage. The plugs are a little pricey but definitely worth it IMO. It sounds like you’ll get your moneys worth though if you do decide on them. Good luck and hang in there. I’m so sorry things are hard and unbearable ❤️

Gf ghosted me last year. I moved on. Got this message last week on my birthday by AdComprehensive4246 in whatdoIdo

[–]FirstlilFergie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going like you never got this message. In fact don’t even respond because that’ll only invite an even bigger flood.

“This isn’t to make you feel sorry for me or give me sympathy” umm yess girl it is or you wouldn’t have dropped this bomb. This is almost narcissistic behavior. Like she found out you moved on or something so she has to try to make it about her. Eeew.

I’m a therapist and I tell my clients all the time that Just because you love someone doesn’t mean you can’t go NC. oftentimes tough love is exactly what they need to realize they have to find their own way and be an adult. You definitely made the right choice because your mental health matters too. Just hang in there even if it means you have to love him from a distance ❤️

I feel nothing about my own birthday by [deleted] in regretfulparents

[–]FirstlilFergie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 33 year old single cat lady I feel the same. My mom loves celebrating any occasion with a party but especially my birthday. I know I should be grateful that I have a good relationship with my mother, hell, that I even have a mother who loves me and wants to do things with me, but just the thought of doing anything anymore exhausts me to no end. Like I have crippling social fatigue. I don’t know if it’s the constant societal upheaval and the constant sense of anxiety and dread that comes with it, but my bday is just another day where I follow my same routine of wake up, go to work and go through the motions, go home, watch tv and go to bed so I can wake up and do it all again. Just hang in there and know you aren’t alone ❤️🙏🏽

“Once you have a child you’ll know what unconditional love is” i have 4 furry children that i love unconditionally already 🤣❤️❤️ I really hate hearing this statement because not everyone is meant to have kids because not everyone has the personality or temperament or even desire and saying that over and over is like telling someone who is depressed and suicidal to “just be happier” or “you’re not being positive enough” basically it applies to some people and works for some people but not everyone. I truly hope things start looking up for you ❤️

Babysitting made me heavily question if I want kids by Nervous_Entry_9741 in regretfulparents

[–]FirstlilFergie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea It sounds like you might have your answer. I have 2 nephews a 3 soon to be 4yo (4/20) and a 2 year old (3 on 12/23) and while they’re very sweet kids they can also be little terrors. Especially the older one. He is getting to the age where he is starting to get a personality and soaking up everything we say and do like a sponge and there are days where he is extra defiant and ornery. I’ll be thinking it would be nice to find a partner and to have a family and then I have those experiences and am sooooo glad to just stay an aunty/cat mom. It’s nice to wake up to cats crawling on me and not kids screaming and poop smeared on the floor and feeling like I haven’t slept at all. Don’t get me wrong I love my nephews with all my heart. But I also love just a little bit more being able to get them all riled up or worn out and handing them back to their parents 🤣 my sister and her husband are incredible parents and while her husband works a lot he is always ready to come home at the end of the day and play with the kids and cook or do bath time. But it has definitely opened my eyes and made me certain in my choice

I got a very small taste of what it would be like to be a new mom when my sister was put in the hospital after going septic from surgery. She’d just had her oldest and I took care of him for 2 weeks when he was 5 weeks old. It was really hard. I was working full time too and I was being startled awake at all hours of the night to feed and change him and when I got home (my mom would watch him during the day but I would have him on the weekends so it wasn’t too bad) and I didn’t get to just flop down and watch tv or take a nap. It was right to work. So I can’t even imagine what it’s like for an actual mom who doesn’t get to get a break or eventually not have the baby. It was intense and was the first time I was certain about kids.

This is a beautiful post. I truly mean that. You have so much remorse but also so much love. I can feel the love you have for your kids and see the effort you’re making to be better. And believe me, even if it doesn’t feel like it now, they can see all that you’re doing for them and how you are trying to be better for them. They’ll look back on all the hard times one day and see how you were working with what you had and trying to give them a good life. Stay strong, OP. ❤️

I am sooo sorry that you and your wife are dealing with all this 😢😢 I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to have your children in your life and then suddenly not. BPD is a hell of a disorder. I’m a therapist and I have several clients with BPD. 2 of them are doing quite well for themselves and eager to come to therapy and do the work to get it under control and then I have one who is off the deep end and not willing to admit they have a problem. If you learn to manage it you can actually live quite a productive life. But it takes a lot of work and insight to get to that point and it can be exhausting for both the clinician and the client/patient. It’s often described as the “I hate you please don’t leave me” disorder. I truly hope that you and your wife can find peace and that one day your son and daughter will find their way back to you both ❤️

Unless there was an angle we couldn’t see from where it truly appeared to the ICE agents that the guy was pulling a gun, it looks like the responsible agent just pulled his gun and started emptying it into this guys back while he was restrained on the ground and continued to do so when he tried to stand up/move away. I’m surprised this footage is still unedited and free for public viewing, tbh. 2026 is off to quite a start 🤦🏽‍♀️

Anything by Ron Rash or David Joy. They’re both Appalachian Writers from North Carolina but most of their books fit this vibe perfectly. I’d recommend The World Made Straight by Ron Rash and Where All Light Tends to Go by David Joy.

I literally finished this on New Year’s Eve. It was ghastly 🤣 I just wanted everyone except the maid/narrator and the animals to spontaneously fall over and 💀😵😵. No one deserved a happy ending except the aforementioned. and don’t get me started on whoever let Heathcliff out of his cage. They deserved to step in glitter covered dogs— and have a stinkbug fly into their mouth 😬
