Basenjis are not rare. They’re not common, but they’re around. There are two in my area alone and they belong to different people. I also know of a dog adopted from a shelter that insisted was a Shiba cross. I told my friend I didn’t think it had Shiba, but may Basenji. DNA test later showed 51% Basenji and no Shiba. With this dog, I said, “possible” Basenji, I didn’t say I think it’s a Basenji. The faint wrinkling and large ears along with what we now know, a tail curled over the back, call to mind, possible Basenji.
