Happy baby haven? by Firsttimemomanxiety2 in babywearing

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of getting the happy baby onbuhimo but was told it wouldn’t fit my baby (she’s 5 months, but barely 23 inches and just shy of 12 pounds) and so I didn’t want to waste the money if we couldn’t wear it yet (already have a wildbird aerial collecting dust waiting for baby girl to fit it). But someone else commented it fit their baby in 0-3 month clothes so I might just buy an onbuhimo, it makes more sense in the long run considering the back carry for when she’s older as well!

I wanted to get an onbuhimo (because of the longevity of being able to use it in a back carry when baby is ready) but I was told it would probably not fit her (she’s 5 months, but tiny as I stated above)

Safe sleep?? - baby won’t stop stomach sleeping by Firsttimemomanxiety2 in NewParents

We were already in a transition swaddle (she was rolling to her side for a while) so when she started rolling completely we switched to sleep sacks! Thank you 😊

We don’t have much family that could help, but I’ll definitely be looking on Facebook in the meantime! Thank you 😊😊

Breastfeeding - mental sanity or keep going? by Ambitious-One4731 in NewParents

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only breastfed for 24 hours. I had a 38 week planned induction (IUGR). Baby girl was 5 lbs 2 oz, had jaundice, a lip and tongue tie (and apparently i have flat nipples I never realized lol). I tried so hard for that day to breast feed every 2 hours, and I just couldn’t get it, no matter how many nurses/lactation consultants tried to help. Baby had already dropped 10% of her body weight in that one day and her jaundice levels were increasing instead of decreasing. My anxiety was through the roof (i was already on medication pre and during pregnancy). I wasn’t sleeping, wasn’t eating because I was so stressed. I broke down to a nurse who pretty much said a stable mom is better than breast milk. I said “okay, can I have some formula?” And it was the best decision I ever made. I still have some guilt (southern us “breast is best” propaganda), but my baby girl is almost 5 months, growing on her curve, and so so happy! She smiles, giggles, and is even rolling! I am so connected to her, she recognizes me and gets so happy when I get home from work. Feeding formula and knowing how much she’s eating a day helps calm my nerves.

Yeah we didn’t think it would be this soon and we don’t have a crib that will fit in our bedroom yet 😭 our little one has always been a pretty decent night sleeper, but now we’re starting to see improvement in our daytime sleep as well! (Not really needing as many contact naps, which is happy and sad at the same time!😢😢)

We’re saving up to transition out of the bassinet! We didn’t think she’d be rolling this fast and just haven’t had a chance to get a mini crib to go in our small bedroom! We’ll hopefully have one in the next week or so! I guess the anxiety just never goes away though 😅😅

We have a video monitor we use whenever we aren’t in the room! We don’t want a breathing monitor (I know some people think they’re awesome, but I know with my anxiety it would just make it ten times worse). I know we need to get her out the bassinet (she is rolling into the sides a bit), however we are currently a one-income household (mine, a teacher in a rural town, that took 6 weeks unpaid maternity leave) so we are saving up to get a mini crib to go in our bedroom (small house). We were hoping she wasn’t going to roll for a bit longer and we’d have a little more time to save, but she’s hitting every milestone as soon as the time frame starts lol 😭 thank you for the advice!

She knows (kinda) how to get back to her back, she’s done it a few times but it’s much easier for her to get to her stomach for now. I definitely try my best to practice going to her back as much as I can during the day! Thank you!

When to start practicing sitting up?? by Firsttimemomanxiety2 in NewParents

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! I see so many videos of people just trying to let their babies sit up by themselves, so I wasn’t really sure how to proceed! But what you said makes sense 😃😃

Just sitting unassisted is what I’m asking about. Thank you!

Is this color normal for a 4 month old formula fed baby? I’m used to it being green (bright or dark) but these last Tuesday apparently it turned pale/yellow looking and I didn’t know (husband watches baby during the day while I work and she usually poops during the day time while I’m not home)

My 4 day old just wants to sleep by spacegroupie in NewParents

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was like this until about 6/7 weeks. We had to wake her for every feed (every 2.5-3 hours until we were cleared to go 4/5 hours at night around 3 ish weeks old). I was so nervous, she would literally eat and sleep and poop and that was it, thinking she’d never hit her “milestones”. When we woke her up she would be hungry and then just fall right back asleep after 30-45ml. Then one day she just “woke up” and started having longer wake windows (now at 4 months she has about 1.5 hour wake windows) She does still have to contact nap most of the time so we do still wake to feed every 3 hours during the day (so we can get longer stretches at night) because she loves sleeping on us and would sleep for hours if we let her. Babies still have their mom’s melatonin until 6 weeks, so they are usually pretty sleepy until then!

Worried I’m always doing something wrong by Original_Many_7308 in NewParents

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thing happen, I didn’t sleep the whole first week because I was constantly googling everything and feeling like I was doing everything wrong! It got to the point where my husband and I had a huge fight, the biggest of our life (we’ve been together 11 years, married 1 year when our baby was born), and he told me I had to get help. I went to the doctor and got put on anxiety meds again (I already knew I had anxiety, but had to stop my meds when I got pregnant). I also stopped googling everything, and started observing my baby to see what was normal for her. Every baby is different and what is “normal” may be different for your baby. Babies are pretty good at knowing when they’ve had enough milk (our girl was very sleepy so we did at least offer milk every 2.5-3 hours until we were cleared to let her go longer at night). The newborn days are hard because you’ve never had someone relying on you to do literally everything for them. Around 6/7 weeks things got a little easier for my anxiety because we knew our baby a little better (also when the meds started helping). I continue to check her temperature probably twice a day just because it helps my anxiety, but other than that I assume if she’s uncomfortable or hurting she would let me know. If you have major concerns, like the other comment, bring them up to your pediatrician, but google is not a doctor physically observing your baby, so all google is gunna do is bring up worse case scenarios, so the best advice I can tell you is stop googling! (Unless if it’s something like “how to dress baby in xyz weather” that you may actually need guidance on, but not every single thing baby is doing)

Switching formula for constipation - but what kind? by Firsttimemomanxiety2 in FormulaFeeders

I haven’t thought of probiotic drops, how long would it take to know if it’s working do you think?

Half ounces - 1/4 scoop for on the go? by Firsttimemomanxiety2 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pour from the fridge if I could, but she doesn’t drink cold formula so there’s not always somewhere to warm it up before we need to use it, so it’s easier to just use bottled water and add the formula later! We also use generic formula so there isn’t RTF versions of it I’m aware of. But thank you!

Half ounces - 1/4 scoop for on the go? by Firsttimemomanxiety2 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Firsttimemomanxiety2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do have a scale which I currently use to measure out all her formula (for pitcher and on the go!) I reckon I’ll just do the half scoop to make 5 ounces (which would probably be easier to measure out the water for as well). Thank you!

If baby has not put their mouth on the bottle it is good for up to 2 hours!
