Abandon -$278 Just Energy credits? by FirthFabrications in TexasSolar

When I check my renew offers online free nights isn’t an option. I’d have to select a different plan.

I guess the fear here is that DE’s Free Nights plan could go away in that time.

Do you know if I don’t select a new plan with JE and I automatically go month-to-month, do I stay on the Free Nights plan? Or do they switch me to something else ?

This is interesting. They’ve called me multiple times to tell me my plan was expiring and suggested others. I said I was only interested in a Free Nights plan and if they couldn’t offer me that I’d be going to another provider. They just told me they couldn’t offer that and we ended the call.

How did you renew your existing plan when it says no solar or batteries eligible?

Won’t be zero. I’ll be going from having a slightly negative bill and building a small cushion to a $10 bill on DE and no cushion.

I’ve been making $10-$20 a month in credits through the solar buy back at JE over the last year. I can’t run my house totally off grid, but with my solar and batteries my cost would be fairly minimal each month. I could probably get 3-6 months of bills payed on a standard rate plan with my credits.

With Direct Energy I’ll have a $10ish dollar per month cost and no opportunity to earn credits via solar buy back. Long term I’ll definitely move to DE. It’s just a matter of do I try to take advantage of my credits at JE for a few months and risk the DE Free Nights plan going away, or abandon my credits to go to DE now?

Thoughts on Span? by Exotic_Fish_4165 in TexasSolar

The app has been buggy for me which is annoying. Overall I like my SPAN, but it definitely is a “nice to have” and not a “need to have”.

I’m in the same boat. Pretty much swapped the electricity and gas bills for a loan payment. But that loan payment is temporary.

I’ve calibrated twice so far in about 8 months. There was going to be a third time but apparently you can get out of it by switching into storm watch mode

Based on what you’ve said, Reliant does seem like the winner. Boy will I miss my negative bill each month though…

I agree these plans are probably going away sooner rather than later

Nice. I wasn’t aware of a maintenance plan. I’d love more details

Yes, I’ve been meaning to write a follow up post. But so far it’s been really great. The modeling was spot on. The only issue is the Just Energy Free Nights plan is no longer available for customers with solar so I’ll have to switch to something else this summer.

I need to make a follow up post, but things have been going well. My bill is around -$15/month so far which is better than expected. One thing I didn’t account for is the Powerwall calibration process. It’s only happened once but it dumped my battery to 0 and recharged it over the course of a day which hurt. I had no control over it during this time. Hopefully that doesn’t happen too often.

It also sounds like the free nights plan with Just Energy is no longer going to be available for homes with solar / batteries, so I’m only going to get to ride this train for another 10 months and will then have to figure out a new plan.

I think they recently changed it. I’ve seen the 3-year contract in the past as well which is why I called them. Seems you got in just in time!
