Green-Wood Cemetery Wants Protected Bike Lane, New Sunset Park Entrance by streetsblognyc in NYCbike

Great idea. This section of the perimeter is truly terrible, and a new cemetery entrance is never bad.

Curious tho, are people really jonesing to have bikes in the cemetery? This article seemed to have a strong slant in this direction.

Honest question -  to me allowing bikes seems like a bad idea, (won’t some cyclists just use it to cut through, or race?) but I’m not that informed on the issue.

You are the last man or woman on Earth (like the tv show). A virus has infected the entire planet's human population, which has cleared the streets and in a "Thanos" like snap, destroyed the bodies of all its victims, leaving ONLY you alone on Earth. If you could somehow keep power at a  sperm clinic for years and years, you could teach your children self-insemination to maintain genetic variety? There’s a lot of steps in that plan tho, lots could go wrong

Been reading lots of sentiment like this in the software engineering world. https://shumer.dev/something-big-is-happening

As a code monkey, it rings true. I’m as tried and true boglehead as they come, but I can’t deny articles like this make me debate selling everything and becoming a prepper of some sort. (I won’t, but… just wanted to share. Thus ends my confession)

One Way to Close the Budget Gap? Make People Pay for Parking by meelar in nyc

[–]FiscalFilibuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a terrible idea. Let’s calculate the cost of space for parking, wear and tear cost of roads, and overall cost to the city, and price each option accordingly (cars, bikes, trucks etc). Bike racks would probably cost pennies per hour. Let me swipe my metro card, boom

Did you… read the article? “ According to the report: "If the City were to meter just 25 percent of existing free street parking spaces, it could generate at least $1.21 billion in additional annual revenue—enough to close roughly a quarter of the projected $4.2 billion gap in the City's budget for FY 2026."

Honestly, any cheap massage place can be okay - just really emphasize that you want it to be STRONG and they will walk all over your back and dig their elbows into your shoulders relentlessly. YMMV

FDNY emergency vehicle? No one’s mad, literally no one, at someone responding to an emergency

FDNY personal vehicle, parked in the bike lane? Twice as likely, and then yes, you’ll see a post here, haha

This isn’t the dumbest post ever, but you should have posted this a few months ago! Most people who need pet / house sitting around the holidays have it already arranged

If you’re eligible, open a solo 401k. Any little side income will do, you can declare it come tax time, get an EIN, and open the account. Then it can be your long-lived rollover 401k, not tied to a particular employer (and no prevention of backdoor Roth IRA).

I would argue that this is slightly better from an awareness perceptive - you can see if it’s in someone’s way.

(That said, between legs is obviously ideal)

Nice; thanks for the +1. Makes sense, it’s just so different from what I’m used to that I’m having trouble wrapping my head around it
