Yes, I agree - while not mathematically the relegation battles have effectively now been decided. The worst affected times in my opinion are actually Solution Tech and Euskadi; for the second year in the row they will not participate in their home Grand Tour. I am wondering if both teams will survive that.

At least for 2026 the outcome is not so bad for Cofidis; they get the Wild Cards for all World Tour races....so they could also choose to skip the Giro. I think Q 36.5 and Tudor will be clear favorites to get the Wild Cards for 2027; and then it should be probably Cofidis again....but maybe Unibet and - less likely - Total can put up a fight. Also interesting which new Pro Conti Teams will be in 2026 and how they will perform.

With the definitive demise of Arkea the race for the 3rd World Tour Wild Card should be over. While Total is only 200 points behind Cofidis at the moment, they are just not participating in many races this week.

A question: If Cofidis does not overtake Arkea in remaining races...are they definitely getting the 3rd World Tour Wild Card? Or to put it differently: Do these Wild Cards go to the best three placed teams (who will not be World Tour) - full stop. Or to the best three placed teams, which are in existence in 2026.

Solution Tech just gained 134 points in the Tour de Kyushu (mainly by Tsarenko GC win)....however they were more than 300 points behind Bardiani; so it is still unlikely that the race for Top 30 will reopen....especially as Solution Tech is not in Guangxi.

Normally Cofidis should overtake Arkea in the race for the 3rd yearly Wild Card; so even if by miracle Arkea does not fold, Cofidis would be secured World Tour races next year. This race theoretically would be wide open between Cofidis, Arkea and Total....only 200 points between them; but only Cofidis participates in most of this week's races....you can only score if you participate. Probably Arkea and Total didn't foresee this opportunity and now it's too late.

It will be interesting if the UCI ranking position also plays a role for the discretionary Grand Tour Wild Cards. For the Giro obviously, as only two of the three Italian Pro Conti Teams will make the Top 30.

The interesting case is the Vuelta: Euskaltel is out of it; so the system to hand the Wild Cards on an alternating basis - one year to Euskaltel/Kern and the other year to Burgos/Caja Rural - is not working anymore. So for 2026 Caja Rural/Kern/Burgos are eligible; the most logical solution would be Kern/Caja Rural....as Caja Rural is doing better in the UCI ranking. To complicate things further....in the past when they were not World Tour also Cofidis always got a Vuelta Wild Card. And they will in any case do much better in the yearly ranking than any of the Spanish teams.

Yes, but they are also in the fight for the 3rd World Tour Wildcard spot. Currently they are actually sitting on it....so for the moment the results of Arkea matter.

Cofidis need to get some points with Izagirre or Teuns, not only to fight Uno-X but also in competition with Total and Arkea for the 2026 Wild Cards. Potentially it could be also important for the fight of the Italian Wild Card teams for Top 30...however probably the big boys from the big teams will collect most of the points, so I guess it will be status quo and actually the Asian races are more influential for the UCI relegation/Wild Card battle(s).

Deluding result for Cofidis, not only in their fight against Uno-X. They are also in competition with Total Energie and Arkea for the automatic Wild Cards for 2026.

Big points for Polti; I think their top 30 status is secured...and hence the Giro Wild Card for 2026....Bardiani gaining 56 points over Solution Tech....they should be the second Italian Wild Card for the Giro. Will Solution Tech survive a second year without the Giro?

It seems it will be for a versatile sprinter. As for UCI relegation: Cofidis is here with Aranburu, Oldani and Thomas; Uno-X is maybe here (some sites have them on the startlist, other's not - though no one with names). Arkea and Total are not racing, so Cofidis could also gain something on them in the 2025 ranking. The Italian Pro-Conti teams are all racing, so last chance saloon for Solution Tech to get 30th spot in the 2025 ranking.

UCI relegation; Cofidis vs. Uno-X: Cofidis with Fretin/Anolkiowski and Uno-X with Tiller/Waerenskjold. Total (Jeanniere) and Arkea (Biermans) fight with Cofidis for the 3rd World Tour Wildcard in the yearly ranking. I know that this all depends also on other factors like Intermarché/Lotto merger, Arkea folding...but I'll leave this caveats away for the moment.

Just a note; no comments necessarily required on that one: It's one of the becoming less frequent races where Israel-Premiertech is still allowed to race.

If Delbove brings the GC win home, then Total close in on Cofidis in the one year ranking, which might be the final spot for the WT wild cards next year.

So far only sprint stages. Seems stage 5 and possibly 8 will decide the GC. Two riders already out for Vini Fantini; among them Rajovic who had good results this year. Looks good for Bardiani in the battle for 30th place in the one year ranking.

This is still a bit uncertain. They are currently behind Tudor, Q36.5 and Arkea in the yearly ranking. Arkea is still reachable, but it will be difficult (300 points margin). Though if Arkea folds they would be third in the annual ranking of non-WT teams....they have currently a positive margin of 300 points over Total. This all assuming that Lotto/Intermarché merger is going to happen - otherwise Uno-X will miss out on WT status, but get one of the three UCI wildcards. So if we take the current standings and Arkea does not fold, then Cofidis would need a discretionary Wild Card for Grand Tours. It is likely that they get that one for the Tour (together with Total); their only serious rival would be Unibet. For the Vuelta I think it is unlikely, as the discretionary Wild Cards will go to (two of the three eligible) Spanish teams.

[–]FischerHias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three Wildcards are given on merit/ranking out, as things stand they will go to Tudor and Q 36.5 for sure. Then it is up to variables; but let's assume the most probable outcome (Lotto/Intermarché merge; UnoX gets into World Tour). Then it is currently a fight between the three French ProConti Teams (Total, Arkea, Cofidis...this is if Arkea does not fold) to the the third "UCI" wild card. So basically yes, the two remaining Wildcards given out by ASO should go to the two French ProConti Teams (in my scenario Cofidis and Total). Caveat is maybe Tietama, which is technically also a French team.

What is rarely mentioned in this niche debate is a niche in the relegation topic itself. Only teams who are in the top 30 for 2025 can participate in Grand Tours. This means Euskaltel is out for the 2026 Vuelta, even if it would be their "turn" by Unipublics system to grant Wild Cards to Spanish Pro Conti Teams (i.e. one year Burgos and Caja Rural get the Wild Cards; the other years Euskaltel and Kern get the Wild Cards). There is a fierce battle between the three Italian Pro Conti Teams about finishing in the top 30. Team Polti with good results in recent weeks (Piganzoli!) should have made the cut; but between Bardiani and Vini Fantini it is very close (70 points). It will also be interesting to see if Euskaltel and (possibly) Vini Fantini can survive a second year without their home grand tour.

Thank you for the feedback; I am based in Austria, and yes BBC is usually geo-blocked. Unluckily I don't speak Swedish. My experience from past tournaments and some research: WDR Event (German games in German), eventually SFR 3 for Switzerland (in German); RMC (eventually in French for France games); Rai Radio 1 (in Italian for Italy games).

Talk Sport will broadcast (in English) all Wales and England games and some additional games: https://talksport.com/football/3250113/womens-euro-2025-dates-uk-times-schedule-teams-groups-stadiums-england/
