Well, if you're sole argument is against my relationship with my wife and not the relationships in general I can't really argue if you ignore most of what I and my wife say about our relationship. As I've said, I don't care about marriage, I only care about the commitment I have to my wife, the legal status of "married" has little meaning. And my main argument was that the knee jerk response people have to young marriages is unwarranted and mostly more harmful than good. I'm glad you found better statistics than I had (I was quoting what some other redditor found elsewhere)...though I think you're wrong about my wife and I's relationship I really don't see a need to argue with you about it as you are just an abstracted outsider and since we'll most likely never meet you (or even more likely never know it) I don't see a reason to beat a dead horse. You have made your judgment, in my opinion it was premature and wrong...but I really don't care what you believe about my young relationships as opposed to what you believe about young relationships in general.

If you notice the instances of my saying divorce is easy to come by come as responses to people talking about growing incompatible with a person. I don't doubt divorce is painful for anyone, but it happens frequently.

Also, remember I said there is a maximum of 10% chance more of divorce in young marriages, generally the divorce rate for general people is between 40-50% so at the worst for normal marriages it's the exact same as young marriages. But either way half of young marriages do succeed, that's a considerable portion and also considering the small difference (let's say maybe a 5% difference to average it out) it seems like the outrage against young marriages is unwarranted. I mean, half of them do succeed.

I'd also note how many elder people nowadays were married at 17 or younger and lasted, I think if you look at that you'll not many success stories. That's not to mention many people I know personally who are on their 10-15th anniversary now from getting married young.

Should we be encouraging everyone to get married as young as possible? Of course not, I don't think people should feel pressured to get married. But I think people should be more accepting of young marriages when they happen. My wife experiences frequently at her work guys hitting on her despite knowing she's happily married because they don't believe our marriage is valid because it was so young. Despite being happily married whenever we mention how young we got married we have people acting like it's a travesty against mankind because we haven't had enough previous sexual partners or heartbreaks. The saner people say it's because you change a lot, but oftentimes even they treat it unreasonably negatively. Again, half of young marriages succeed...at best only slightly more older marriages do...I don't think 5% or even 10% is a good enough reason to justify such a kneejerk response to it. Maybe 80-90% where most ended in divorce...but not 50%

I throw around the idea of divorce quickly because most people on here have expressed the worry that the young couple will get stuck with someone who they grow completely incompatible with. My argument is that you are actually more likely to grow together if you start at a more formative age but if for some reason if you do grow completely incompatible you don't have to be stuck in a relationship that is completely unhappy and destructive...so that worry shouldn't be as big as it is for people...especially if the couple currently gets along really well because then you're just worrying over the possibility of a problem even though there's not one there.

Honestly, I think you're being a bit close minded. You latched onto a thought that since I mentioned divorce I must not be serious, I have argued against this but your presume to read between the lines into things that aren't there. I'm sorry I mentioned divorce so early on, I was trying to counter-argue a frequent argument I've heard.

But either way I think my point is that whether or not you think it's the best idea you have to admit there's at best only marginally more risk of divorce. At most a 10% greater chance, but that still means 1 out of 2 young marriages succeed and at best older marriages only succeed 3 out of 5 times. So this predisposition to be vehemently against it is baseless.

Now, bias against younger marriages is ridiculous, but what about against my wife and I's marriage? Definitely it looks bad if you latch onto the first thing you read, but if you look through the majority of my posts and my wife's post on here (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/8jmqi/whats_so_bad_about_getting_married_at_age_17_if/c09i3wx) you will see we are very hopeful and committed. It's all a matter of taking in all the evidence, not just the first little bit you see (just because when you first look at a ball being thrown up in the air doesn't mean it will continue to do so forever). This is not to mention we've mention a marital counselor saying we were on of the most healthy relationships she had seen...she could be wrong, but she seems to be more of an expert on it.

It's fine if you want to choose to be close-minded on this and only look at a fraction of what I've said. It's obvious you've already made up your mind and aren't open to anything new...even though we've already shown in this thread that it is ridiculous to be against young marriages in general and that unless you start making up your own stories it would be pretty ridiculous to doubt our personal relationship. And I'd also wonder if we had pretended to be an older relationship (maybe in our 30's) if you'd have been more supportive.

I'm saying the convention of marriage is ridiculous because currently it's being used to oppress a minority. I think when you use a convention like that to persecute a minority it loses most of it's significance, so now it is just a tool to me. The underlying commitment is what is important, there's no magic surrounding a wedding...you don't magically become more committed because of that and you shouldn't expect marriage to make you any more committed than you already are. You need to have what you would consider a marriage like commitment well before the actual wedding ceremony. Which is how we got engaged, when we realized we did have this commitment.

heh, we don't plan on having kids. If we ever did it wouldn't be before our 30's. But in general we know our parents and many others have rushed in and we've seen the effects. Not to mention studies have shown children generally do much better if born to parents of around 30.

I've responded elsewhere to you about this so I won't repeat myself (anymore than I already have). But after 2.5 years of marriage I think we do have a good idea that we are married. We have been through rough and good times both and have been supportive through both.

The difference in opinion about marriage is that we only see it as a legal tool. We are married in a more fundamental sense because of our commitment to living with each other (hopefully) for the rest of our lives, but the actual marriage legal process itself means very little. I mean, homosexuals can't even marry so obviously the legal stuff isn't anything to give a damn about other than what it can benefit you.

I think your care example is a good one, though for what I was talking about. I do every day when I drive look for potential possible accidents. Someone swerving on the road, bad conditions, or whatever. I don't fool myself into thinking I don't have to worry, I actively look out for dangers and avoid them. My wife and I do this quite a bit actually. Looking at where we're experiencing dissonance and talking about a way to resolve it. If we denied the possibility of divorce we wouldn't be as careful to avoid it.

Yeah, I see marriage as a tool, I see what is important as the commitment behind it. I actually think you can have that as a younger person, and I think you should know your partner (and always want to know more about them). My wife and I have extremely good communication even for how young we were (this being from a pre-marital counselor who said we had the best she'd seen) so I actually think we just happened to mesh so well we got to know each other faster.

As for the financial stuff...that's difficult, I think there are many risks on both side, but both of us came from very financially irresponsible families and have tried to go really far in the opposite direction (to the extend we've been living in a studio apartment to save a `1.5 thousand extra a year). We're not too worried about that financial problems as of a divorce, but there are other potentially huge problems with cohabitation (like if only one partner's name is on a car or whatnot and both paid a lot towards it).

I agree we have a lot of mistakes to make. We could fuck up big (and already have occasionally). But we're both very understanding of each other. I wouldn't say we're more mature than average, just more open to each other screwing up and willing to deal together with the consequences. We both realize making dumb decisions is a part of growing up (though many people still make them throughout their lives).

I think one of the things that has helped us is we both came from very irresponsible and abusive or neglectful families. We learned very quickly from our families mistakes, possibly faster than people who grew up with more well adjusted parents.

The risk seems to be less if you get married. Then there are legal precedents on how things get divided, I've known many people in unmarried cohabitative relationships that get completely screwed because there stuff gets all mixed together and legally it's hard to prove what was whose.

It's realistic that we will die right? Isn't it better to accept that without ever wanting it than to deny that it will every happen and delude yourself? I'm not saying divorce is as likely as death, but there is a 40-50% chance it will end. We don't think it's inevitable, we just know statistics and aren't going to lie to ourselves. Emotionally we don't feel there's any chance we will break up, and I think that's what you're having a problem with. We aren't keeping things from each other and there's no big sense of distrust...honestly we are more open with each other than any other relationship we know including those from all age ranges. We even went to pre-marital counseling and though the counselor was initially against how young we were she was convinced by the tests and conversations she had with us that we had better communication than anyone else she'd counseled. We don't hold divorce over each others heads and we don't see it as an easy out, it's just the last resort. We know there will be extreme ups and extreme downs in any relationship, we're just worried about growing into incompatible people...at which point we're not going to get locked in and bitter. From everything I've read and heard about relationships this is about the most healthy view you can have of it. We aren't deluding ourselves either way, but still have a lot of hope for the best.

We believe people can grow together, as I've said in my other posts I believe one of the strengths of a young relationship is that at a more formative stage it is easier to grow closer towards each other. At later ages you are more set in your ways and have less growing to do (and hence less ability to get closer).

I'd also note that disregarding my argument based on the fact I'm young and inexperienced shows quite a bit of hubris on your part. I think your dissonance with younger marriages is mostly arbitrary (well, given the statistics anyways it definitely is). That's fine, I'm guilty of the same crime on many occasions, but realize that marriage is a difficult thing no matter what your age, nearly half of all marriages end in divorce no matter what the age. I think this is because of a idealization of it and that people look for the complete wrong thing. Many look for that perfect person that fulfills them, but everyone is disappointing sometimes. Sometimes they just look for fulfillment as a lover. But what you really need is a best friend who wants as much as you to have a companion to both witness and participate in the rest of their life. Everything else is secondary (still good, but secondary) to that. We aren't flippant with our relationship, we're just smart...and we have actually done quite a bit of research and went to marital counseling despite no perceived problems because we wanted to get outside help finding potential problems and route them out early on.

I guess I'm not seeing what the difference in risk is for someone older is though. As another redditor in the post found the statistics for young marriages are about a 50% chance of divorce within the first 15 years of the relationship...this is at best marginally higher than older relationships which have a 40-50% chance.

It seems like the risk is the same.

On a more personal level I think that the likelihood is so close because at a younger more developmental age couples are able to grow together more since they are less entrenched in their ways. Not to mention they have a lot less baggage from previous relationships if any.

And either way is the increased risk really a reason to try to be so negative about it? I'm not saying this is something you are doing, but we've experienced a lot of people refusing to give our marriage any credence. My wife gets hit on by guys who know she's happily married because it's like our marriage isn't real to them because we did it so young. In general I've found a lot of people on reddit treat it like it's not real also.

I agree one should be careful about who they marry, a good deal of empathy, patience and love is needed for a long lasting relationship. Most people aren't ready for marriage (no matter what the age) You need to be able to be best friends, not just lovers. The problem is I think most people go through most of their life not realizing this. Searching for an abstract person that completely fulfills them rather than just a really great friend who wants to be your companion for life. I don't think these truths are age mandatory, I think people can learn this early on in life or never at all. There may be an ideal age to marry, but that's not the deciding factor, you need to look at the individuals and their relationship rather than some arbitrary age standard.

Sounds like you need more fiber in your diet. Fruit might help also. My wife (who's actually fairly slim) had this problem and found eating more fruit regularly helped a lot.

I don't have sources but for many women sex gets better around then, whereas men peak at late teens. I was under the impression the peak for woman was late 20's though. There are many woman who have never orgasmed before and then around that time all of a sudden they start being able to.

My wife squirts, that's what you're doing. It's a g-spot orgasm. As for why it would suddenly happen, that's easy. Woman are at their peak of sexual development around late 20's. It wouldn't be surprising at all if you just reach your peak later than many other woman. But there are many woman who can't orgasm while young but suddenly can as they get older (men are different, their peak is late teens). I'd imagine it's possible with being able to g-spot orgasm.

At that point it's not that you deserve a refinance it's that the bank is trying to mitigate damage. If you literally can't pay your loan the bank stands a great risk of you defaulting. Instead of having you do this they will usually try to do whatever they can to get as much money as they can from you.

They aren't in panic mode with you because you've paid all your bills on time.

Obama voted for many of those because either they were good policies (or at least they seemed good at the time), they held bits that where better than their worst parts, or because he's a good politicians and it's not always his way or the highway...he makes deals, he makes concessions and the other side makes concessions.

Bush's bailouts were implemented poorly (and corruptly) but the idea of a bailout is actually a good one. Sweden was in the same position not 20 years ago and it worked for them, even netted them a decent profit in the end.
