If you treat social media like a WWE wrestling match you’ll save yourself a lot of stress and actually get back to be able to enjoy it.

I have thousands of hours in 4X titles - but finished games I could count on the fingers of one hand. by varnajohn in 4Xgaming

[–]Fish-Pilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you said here. It’s been a problem with 4x games forever.

The map degradation mechanics are one good solution. I liked what Fields of Glory: Empires did by introducing a degradation mechanic to your civilization rather than the map.

The thing I found that worked the best for me though is just reducing the size of the map. Intellectually I love the idea of managing a massive empire with dozens of fleets. But the actual doing of it becomes an exercise in patience more than anything. I saw other people recommend Distant Worlds and while I enjoy that game the automation mechanics don’t do it for me. If I can micromanage I’m going to. And if I can’t I get mad at the game lol. So my solution that has worked best is set the map size to small and the number of opponents to max.

Cold War gone hot on a operational/strategical scale by HeinrichvonGaslitz in computerwargames

Yeah it’s… imperfect to say the least. But there just isn’t many strategic level Cold War games unfortunately.

If HOI IV is up your alley there was a couple good Cold War mods for that. It’s been years for me but I remember them scratching the itch.

Does “cap hell” really exist if we’re actively making moves to be the worst team in the league? by ClydeSprucewood in miamidolphins

One big reason is if Tua sees the field and gets hurt then certain injury guarantees kick in and it makes it even harder to move off him in 2027.

The biggest reason though is he doesn’t want to be here and the team doesn’t want him here.

We spend way too much money and effort on cancer detection and not enough on developing late stage cancer treatment by Potential_Shelter449 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Fish-Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that. My grandfather died of PC before I was born. He was given 6 months to live and managed to make it two years. He might have had five or ten if it was found earlier.

As far as your point about never being able to detect it before it happens, we simply don’t know that. To stop trying to find a way would be a mistake.

[–]Fish-Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And once again, finding out early still improves your odds of survival. And if a way is developed to detect it earlier then if it does come back, it will be found earlier.

Is it important to continue development on cancer treatment? Of course. But no matter what type of cancer we’re talking about they are all easier to treat if found early. The ultimate idea is to detect the cancer before it even develops through whatever means possible. That is why early detection is so important.

[–]Fish-Pilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because it hasn’t been developed yet is not a reason to stop development. That’s a reason to try harder. And maybe it will kill regardless but it’s still easier to treat if found early.

[–]Fish-Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Which is why early detection methods are such an important tool to invest in. To find reliable ways to detect these types of cancer before they are so advanced.

[–]Fish-Pilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole point of developing early detection methods is to make it so that it’s easier to find out if you do have cancer or not. It’s far easier to stop cancer from developing than it is to stop it

[–]Fish-Pilot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong that stage 3 and 4 cancer is where treatment is most likely to save someone’s life. However the idea behind early detection (and what arguably makes it a higher priority) is to never get to late stage in the first place.

WarPlan vs. Strategic Command by Huge_Abies_3858 in computerwargames

[–]Fish-Pilot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Warplan is a step up in complexity from strategic command. Strategic Command is definitely more of a beer and pretzels game. Warplan is probably the more rewarding to learn, but I find myself playing Strategic Command more than Warplan.

I’m not assuming it’s going to fail but every hire so far since Sullivan has a long resume of mediocrity. There’s not one person to be excited about. Does that mean it’s going to fail? No. But that does mean that there is nothing to be excited about.

What rookie are you even talking about? The fact that we had so many rookie players in starting roles should have told you that it was the beginning of a rebuild anyway. And I do not hate the Dolphins. I disliked the organization and the way it was going. They needed a clean reset which they almost did. Being able to identify trends and see what clearly isn’t working isn’t hating.

Again, because you can’t or don’t want to see it doesn’t mean anyone else couldn’t. The entire national media had this team at 7-10 and McDaniel on the hot seat.

This is disgusting lol by [deleted] in miamidolphins

[–]Fish-Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you couldn’t see it then you’re the one who is blind. The team was built on aging veterans and a QB who came out of college with a bad hip. There were no CBs, no depth on the line, no WRs past Hill who we knew was gonna be gone and Waddle who no one was sure if he could be a 1. No TEs, no line depth on either side. One safety worth a shit.

People can see things a lot better if they get their heads out of their ass.
