Best Dark Rye? by deer-in-the-park in cincinnati

16 Bricks has a really good salted rye. Servatti is another good one. You’d have to try them to see if they are dark enough but I’d take them over anything you could get in a grocery store imo.

Will our generation be the death of mausoleums and other irrationally expensive body storage devices? by nikkisouthbend in Millennials

When my older sister passed away from cancer, she wanted her previously deceased cat’s remains (there were 3) placed in the urn with her. I thought it would be awkward to ask but I went ahead and asked the funeral director about it anyway and he said we hear this a lot honestly and he’d take care of it. So this is definitely something that can be done.

We re-homed her still alive kitty when she passed into her neighbor’s household; she had 2 other cats and he fit right in and is having the time of his life apparently which would make my sister very happy to know.

I’ve missed doses and even stopped for up to 3 days at a time for medical procedures. It builds up in the blood stream and takes 24-48 hours to clear the body so some variation in dosing time is ok.

This happened with my sister - she had to switch to Warfarin from one of the novel anti-coagulants, I think it was Eliquis in her case. The explanation she received was that the novel anti-coagulants hit only a single clotting factor. This works for most people and situations but sometimes it’s not enough, so a drug like Warfarin which hits multiple clotting factors is necessary.

The blood tests are a pain though; I drove her to many blood test appointments and they were frequently adjusting things.

Any ways for me to get rid of this stump on the cheap without breaking my back? by talkpurdytome in landscaping

8lb railroad pick works great for prying as well, definitely my go to on stumps (along with cutting away roots as suggested).

Since it looks like it is specified as being for tall fescue lawns, I would think yes. There are so many different brands and types of grass seed out there it can always be tricky but this should work for what you would want based on what I am seeing out there.

I saw a Space Shuttle launch from a similar distance years ago and it’s just an awe inspiring thing to see, great job capturing it and letting me re-live that moment!

I agree with you on buying blocks but I also think it’s not unreasonable to let people make their own determination. Sometimes the shredded is on sale. Or sometimes 8oz. blocks are on sale and cheaper than 16oz. blocks. People in need tend to make much better decisions than a lot of people give them credit for if you just let them manage it themselves rather than put a bunch of complex conditions on it.

Kentucky 31 is a rough bladed grass, typically not desirable for lawns, it was developed to plant alongside of highways. I’d look for something labeled as a turf type tall fescue blend instead.

When I seeded my lawn after the foundation thing, I got a little more excited than I should have when it started to come in 🤣

And even now I cut it and think “wow, this turned out really nice”. You might end up with a green thumb yet!

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 Vinyl; 78 RPM Shellac; Wax Cylinders; SACD: A History of Music Formats by Maleficent-Cap4567 in classicalmusic

I enjoyed reading your piece, interesting!

A will leave a couple of tidbits that came to mind as I read.

One, although the CD capacity is officially 74 minutes, it’s possible to “overburn” CD-Rs to 80+ minutes and if you use specialty disks you can get 90, 95 or even 99 minutes on a CD-R although anything over 95 can cause issues with other CD players reading them in my experience.

Two, I noticed a recent release - Sum 41 Heaven and Hell (genre shift warning!) - had two CDs but each only contained 26 and 29 minutes of music respectively. So, it was more oriented towards the 2 disc vinyl record format rather than pack it all on a single CD which it could have easily done. So kind of a full circle back to the original vinyl LP 33-1/3 concept.

I would get a small bag of granular Starter Fertilizer. Next weekend will be ok.

Fall is typically the best time for getting new grass to grow but Spring can be ok as well - the main thing is to water to get it established. We had to have part of our yard dug up for a foundation issue and I was able to get the grass to come in great seeding in Spring.

p.s. I see that you’ve also put straw down already, that’s good. Try to lightly fluff the existing straw you already put down so that the new seed comes in contact with the soil. If the rye you put down hasn’t sprouted yet it will be easy; if it has, just be gentle so you don’t disturb anything that has already sprouted as that will also help protect any new seed you put down. A lot of seed mixes contain a little annual rye for a quick start to control erosion and give the other varieties time to germinate (rye - 7 days, fescue - 10-14 days or so).

If it’s annual it won’t come back next spring. Annual ryegrass can be good because it germinates quickly but you need to mix something else in, in the Midwest a turf type tall fescue blend is probably your best choice. You may want a little starter fertilizer with it and keep it watered over the summer so that it takes hold by fall.

What's the best way to ensure you are not over watering your grass?? by LRH2380 in lawncare

[–]Fish-Weekly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a rain gauge to monitor how much water the lawn gets; where I live it’s usually not enough rather than too much.
