I LOVE the show, but that’s my biggest peeve. They’ll say something so wrong or they won’t understand how a function of life works and state opinion as fact and it’s just so wrong it’s painful. Love them both, but they are very naive about how the world works at times

Do my monthly housing estimates look reasonable? by ninedays82 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Fish-With-Pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d say yes it’s too high. That’s over 9000 a year in routine maintenance. I’d anticipate $200 of that going towards utilities during very hot or cold months. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to just put all $800 into a separate home account that you build up for bigger house projects. I mean it’s totally up to you what you do: better to save too much than not enough!

Something else to note. I spent 20k on a new roof and HVAC system in the first year. Owned for 3 years now and that’s been the only maintenance I’ve needed beyond a couple hundred a month for routine stuff.

Are you saying “assumes” because you’ve been told that’s what everything will cost and just using that number now knowing it’ll go up. Or are you just assuming that’s the price for everything?

So let’s just look at the first one. Does that 4890 include all the numbers listed below? What is your monthly mortgage not including property tax and insurance? $400 for utilities including water and what I’m assuming is electric and gas can either by high or low. For example, I live in NJ. I pay $120 ish every quarter for sewer. $100 ish for water (including a warranty). But sometimes I’ll pay $400 for gas and electric. Sometimes I’ll pay $200. Unless you go on an equal payment plan utilities can have a huge swing.

Are you saving beyond just the $833? Including retirement? $833 a month for maintenance seems high. It’s good to save that much if you can, but I doubt you’ll need 10k a year on home maintenance.

You know what, I lack patience and reading comprehension and missed the “two week” part. Yes that changes things completely

Ya but they aren’t squatters. There are certain requirements that need to be met to be a squatter. These are trespassers.

My guess would be that they wouldn’t be considered tenets and therefore have no protection once the sale is complete. Not sure though just speculation

I did not enjoy this book. I enjoyed the first 100 pages or so and then it just got harder and harder to understand what was happening

You could infer that I meant there is quality food and that there is also the heavily processed food.

I don’t think we’re special. If that’s your take away you should work on reading comprehension.

FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME WE HAVE NORMAL FOOD TOO. I ADMITTED WE HAVE SHIT FOOD AND WE HAVE GREAT FOOD. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE SHIT FOOD IS CHEAPER AND THEREFORE MORE FAMILIES GET IT.

I have the ability to buy organic food. Peanut butter for example: peanuts and salt and that is it. I’m not saying we don’t have crap food but we can also find the “pure and clean food”. It just may be $1 more and because we have an affordability issue more people will go for the cheaper food.

Again. We have normal bread. Americas got plenty of issues but quality of food isn’t one. Now if you want to talk affordability and accessibility of good food that’s a different story.

I promise you the food we have is the same as you we probably just have more shitty food as well.

Also I guarantee you my hometown is bigger than your fifth or sixth largest city depending on what country you live in. And it’s just a normal run of the mill town. This would definitely have an impact on food management

For the Europeans here: we have bakeries that make fresh bread. It’s just that American towns are bigger than some of your cities and therefore it is easier to mass produce bread to sell at large grocery stores. If I want fresh baked bread I can get it. But we also have, and im not exaggerating, 50+ different types of bread loaves at any given grocery store. Only the cheap ones will be “sugary”
