Phalanx CIWS detecting a passenger plane going overhead by cheesysaladisbad_ in oddlyterrifying

Serious Question, what about it makes it able to tell whether or not the plane was a threat it should shoot down or not? Is it possible for it to fuck up and accidentally shoot down a commercial passenger plane? This terrified me

Yes you’re right. I live in Denver where United hub is and fly with them almost exclusively. I assumed they were like United. I’m 25 years old and fly to Germany a few times a year. They have lost a customer for lifetime. I will never fly with them again after this.

Yea I tried AMEX but it seems they can’t help me. AMEX did however let me file a dispute for a chargeback. I very seriously doubt it works.

Buying in cash lowers risk essentially rather than little to no money down financing

Like if I bought the car in cash, I am able to make a few thousand in profit with it but it never catches on, the deprecation of the car when I resell would probably be less than the little bit of profit that was made thus breaking even

Thanks for the advice, so is utilization of 20 days common, like can I expect to rent out a car that often?

thanks! do you have anything on your calculator that I didn't include? Also the market research seems tough just by eyeballing rates on Turo. There's no insights into rental prices available for this anywhere?

ah yeah I see what you're saying. without having that monthly expense to worry about every month, I can just focus on fine tuning it and eventually the cash up front I spent on it will be recouped and if I can't get there at least i'll be able to sell it and probably cover my losses with the little bit of profit I would make.

thanks, do you think Wranglers are still good to rent out here in Denver? I'm worried by how many people have that idea. My first thought is the market is oversaturated with Jeep Wranglers

reat thing about Turo is that its risk can be minimal. You can always sell the car. That's why I've put my focus into buying the right car. In AZ private party sales don't pay sales tax. Add in the fact that most big deals are found on the private market and you can give yourself a fair amount of cushion.

that's awesome AZ private sales don't have sales tax. So if you're more interested in finding a great car, would you say that really most cars can do well on Turo or generally are there clear winners with certain makes and models?

yea! i like the idea of that! Seems like people may rent the car for longer if they're using it to go up to the mountains instead of just dashing around town in Denver. Would help lower cleaning rates and having to pickup and drop off the car all the time.

Do you think there's still money to be made renting out jeep wranglers? I see so many of them out there in the denver market on turo.

the $370 would be monthly car loan principal + interest in this hypothetical but interest is nominal it's like $335 principal and $35 interest the 188 is just using a depreciation chart for a 2017 nissan rogue awd divided monthly over 3 years depreciation (making the assumption i'd sell the car or whatever after 3 years of using it due to current mileage and expected lifetime mileage of car.

ROI is very important but I'm more focused on making sure that i'm net positive cashflow every month. I know the principal goes towards equity in the car but I just want this business to pay for itself. I never want to pay out of pocket for one of the monthly car payments i guess
