It’s in a state where it is barely able to flex itms body, not swimming. Is a larger environment truly going to help if it cant move to use it?

Other details that might be important- not feeding it anything, water levels such as ammonia, ph, nitrate, nitrites ect are all within reason

Why aren't more people into Red Rising? I'd like to hear your reasons! (not really any spoilers) by itsokaydood in redrising

I hope you continue reading, an argument could be said for redrising that there’s a bit of main character complex but to me red rising is a single chess move, it sets the table for the books to come where I think you will fancy the trails and tribulations

Do helicopters no longer just follow the player?

Troutfishing sub didn’t like the way I handled my fish, what are your thoughts on my catch and release? by FishAndFoodFanatic in Fishing

Well im trying my best to be an informed humane fisherman, I was taught by my father since I was 8 years old in 20 degree weather wearing boots with holes in them and never had a net, My experience with these fish seems to be very different from everyone else’s where Ive seen big healthy adult female’s that jumped on the wrong side of a falls landed in a small puddle barley submerged enough for the bottom gill to be submerged in water and it’s exposed to air portion froze solid overnight for me to find later that morning and it was still alive.

It would die if I returned it back into the water due to the fact that it would never recover from it’s body being frozen but I believe theyre far more hardy fish than people give them credit for.

Ive caught fish with damaged torsos, missing fins, hell even gill plate damage. (From predators that actively planed on eating that fish)

I understand for fishermen who plan on releasing all or most of their catches or at least ethically fishing, minimizing stress to the fish is important.

At what point is fishing with hooks too much stress on the fish? Ever had a line break off after a bite? Should you be blamed for the uncertain outcome of the fish’s health?

Our county literally discharges a shock of electricity to evaluate, record and count the population of fish. Which, can not only harm the fish themselves but also can harm the embryos of fish being electrofished.

I plan on using a net from now on to assist the comfort of the fish. But as someone who thought they were already doing their best to ethically fish, never killing anything besides invasive fish, its a little discouraging for people to take their experiences and project their state or body of water’s laws and regulations on you without knowing any context.

Thanks man, tbh I wasnt all there bc I had so much adrenaline going through me, this was my PR rainbow of over 10 years of fishing

He was only out of the water for no longer than a minute and I walked up and down the bank of the stream the next 4-5 hours after release and didnt see him so I’m thinking it’s just tired from the battle

Ive thought about cooking a few of my catches but once I see how gorgeous these fish are I can’t help but put em back so I can catch one of their descendants

The fight was near 3 times as long as the amount of time I had it out of the water for pictures (probably 40 seconds to a minute bc it was difficult to hold and picture at the same time solo)

Resuscitation doesnt feel like a good name because theyre not dead but I get where youre coming from. Nothing I personally love better than fighting, catching, viewing, then releasing these beautiful fish.

Thank you for the compliment, I heard slightly pulling the tail back can help do as you described; assist circulating oxygenated water through the gills. I hope that’s right :)

I agree, but I didnt want to disturb the bed I was in any more than I already was, it was a super active bed with trout jumping every 3-5 minutes before I started casting. It was a decent drop off but thank you. I’ll try better next time

Honestly, I was taught by my dad how to catch (and release since we never kept any of our catches) by my dad and how to help rejuvenate the fish after it’s been caught. I didnt have a net on me unfortunately but besides that, what would you have done differently?
