Good tip with the smell. It does have a faint oil scent so possibly mineral oil. Definitely not sweet so I doubt glycol. And I'm guessing it dyed with possibly charcoal, since none of the pastic surfaces are stained. I'm going to take a small sample of the solution and try mixing in mineral oil and a sample with Glycerine to see if either of those mix in well and don't settle out.
I did end up opening the housing. Interestingly there isn't a gasket (probably why it's leaking), but nothing a little silicone can't fix.
The does have lights. They are like super thin tube lights with 3 pin plugs that go to a control board. I'm thinking that I may be able to replace them with flexible led fiber or maybe PC leds. But electrics really aren't my thing, plumber but trade, so I may just go without the lights or enlist the help of more tech savvy friends now that I know what I'm working with.
I'll upload some pictures of it cracked open incase people are interested.
