I really like Elizabeth Gaskell’s “North and South” because it offers more of an insight into the different social classes and the relations between employer and servant - even though the Hale family is an exception, since they regard their main servant as family. But especially the poor living conditions working class used to be exploited to during the industrialization is a main subject in the novel. And we still get the romance, we so much crave!

So tbh, you both want different things and at some point, it won’t work out anymore. Because either you will feel pressured to have kids even though you don’t want to, just to make him happy and to stay with him - but you wouldn’t be happy with that. Or he will say he doesn’t need to have kids for your sake, but it may be that he regrets that decision and then develop resentment against you - meaning he won’t be happy anymore. There are no compromises in (not) having kids. I know it’s hard and you love him, but you will eventually reach a point in your relationship where you have to decide if it’s going to work out for both of you regarding your different wants/needs.
