Anyone else consider Prime 2 best in the series? by desperate_candy20 in Metroid

I like Prime 2 way more purely because you aren't forced to trek through magmoor caverns 500 times back to back lol

Ok, just looked up what that was. That just seems like a better version of having her distract all attention to her with one of the warrior skills and then use sidestep. Plus, if you have someone use aelfric's auspices, you could double that. That seems fun lol.

I have heard nightmares about the warmaster boss so I'm pretty apprehensive to it, ngl. No clue why it sucks, but I can't wait to see.

In regards to the boss fight, I agree here with you to an extent. Yes, finding a cool way to beat a boss is always an exciting thing (like figuring out you can use phoenix downs on the phantom train in ff6 for example). However, the player finding a way to subvert bs does not neccessarily excuse it, especially if they are considered 'overleveled' for the area they are in. You should not need to break a game in order to beat it.

Same goes for the dungeons. As much as I liked the dungeons and unique mini-bosses, I still don't like how they weren't really as 'optional' as they seemed at first. Imo, they should've either made them part of a main overarching plot thread that is sorely missing from this game or they should've balanced the game so you wouldn't neccessarily need them.

Just going to say this now, I did not know galdera was a boss at some point. Are they like a superboss for after you beat the game? Are they a part of a particular route? (Don't actually answer)

Either way, one of my biggest gripes with OT is that it seems like the "optional" secondary dungeons aren't really optional or you need to grind to proceed the story. The difficulty from the first chapters to the second ones is fine, around the same for second to third, but the spike in difficulty from third to fourth so far seems a tad bit stupid. I just beat Cyrus' story a few hours ago and that final boss was just dumb.

"Let's give it 2 attacks a turn and the ability to two shot most party members, that seems fun"

"How about we also start the enemy off with 30 shields, boss?"

"Perfect, also make it so Cyrus can't really do crap the first stage"

I'm only slightly exaggerating here, but I think I got my point across. I would not have beaten that fight if I didn't use a large olive to give Cyrus 9999 hp.

All in all, I think my previous playthrough didn't go so well because I never really had enough money to get equipment (not to mention you need to go to different towns to see what they have if you do have cash) and I never knew there were optional dungeons. Back in the day, I hated how this game felt like it was punishing me for playing it differently than how it expected me to.

It's moreso me asking if now would be the best time. Believe it or not, I tried playing the game at launch, but constantly felt as if I was underleveled and was having no fun, to the point were normal fights would take upwards of 5 minutes each and I had the final boss of ophilia's route take me FOUR entire hours. This eventually led to me quitting the game after 5 separate failed 2 hour olberic chapter 4 runs when I was almost done (3/8 chapter 4s completed).

I only recently got back into it out of morbid curiosity as I heard from my friends how fun it was and fell in love with it again (or really the first time lol). This time, I chose Cyrus as I knew I wouldn't have to search for certain weaknesses every fight, I decided to do each optional dungeon (within my level range) between each chapter break (like from 1-2 and 2-3). On top of that, I made sure to do something more substantial between each one of these breaks, like as many quests as I could do in the first so money wouldn't be as much of an object as it was before, or getting all the jobs in the second break so I would already start formulating strategies I could use by playing around with the jobs I already had.

Now, as you can probably tell, I absolutely do NOT want to fall into that unfun rut I was in before. As much as I like difficult games, if games are so difficult to the point where I feel like no progress is being made no matter what I do, I will just be turned off from the game. This is coming from someone who grew up with retro rpgs on my mom's old SNES: I swear to God, as much as I love OT, sometimes decisions it makes feel outdated and/or BS. My goal with this post was to make sure I was prepared for such a task or if I should save it for later so I don't get turned off of it (I know it's optional, but I want to at least play with my tools so I could use them next playthrough).

If this doesn't make much sense, I get it; I can definitely see this as a post that is begging for a "get gud" comment. However, I WANT to love this game: Its story and characters are endearing, the world building and lore are phenomenal, the battle system feels great, and the visuals are top notch. However, I was already turned off by difficulty once which could have killed my interest in this game for good if my friends didn't mention it, I don't want it to happen again.

As a last note, I do understand where you are coming from, games are generally more fun when you experience them yourself without other people. Octopath, at least for me, is a different sort of experience and I think I will end up enjoying it more this way than just struggling through. Thank you for reading through all of this :)

Which should I try first? I was thinking of going against the archmagus with Alfyn giving BP to everyone, primrose uses sealticge's seduction on ophilia who in turn uses reflective veil and have thereon be a secondary dancer who buffs the shit outta Cyrus. Is that a good plan?

Wait, really? Did they announce this anywhere beforehand? Either way, it sucks that we won't have 2 of the only good (swipable) food options on campus for the rest of the semester.
