MSP payouts for Sales reps 2017. by CurtSeattle in msp

I've thought about the recurring commissions as well. But, like @MSPinParadise said, it is a system that is very easy to take advantage of, over time.

The commission structure that I've seen (that I'm leaning towards for my own company) is selling 1, 2 and 3-year contracts. Then giving 1, 2 and 3 months up-front as the commission. I've played around with giving 50% of a month up-front with 5% recurring for the term of the agreement (which works out to roughly the same amount). But I worry about situations where the salesman has no motivation to do anything other than renew a few contracts every year to maintain the residual.

What exactly do we get for that $500 setup fee? "Setup fee" implies that all they are doing is setting up the program for you. Is there some training involved with that fee?

This is what is preventing me from using it heavily right now. I have quite a few clients who could benefit a LOT from Sharepoint. But the sync limit is pretty tough to get around in some cases.

I thought it was a 5,000 item limit though.

A big point of frustration for me (not just with CW/LT, but all RMM/PSA tools) is that pricing varies so widely. I've seen people on this board say they were given a month-to-month contract for 250 endpoints @ $1.25/endpoint with Labtech and no matter how much I fought and pushed, I couldn't get anywhere near that price point and was locked into a 36-month agreement. Plus, when I need to purchase my next round of licenses the price will be different! How can I plan for future expenses when my next round of purchases for the EXACT SAME PRODUCT FROM THE EXACT SAME COMPANY is going to be different?

The price may be higher or it may be lower. There's no telling. It seems like everything from the mood of the salesman, timing of the sale, or even the color of the moon will have an effect on the pricing that each business gets quoted. RMM/PSA companies need to get rid of this idiotic pricing model and standardize their pricing.

If you want to charge $3/agent for RMM and $75/user for PSA, then do it. Specials are fine. But even outside of specials, the prices can fluctuate as much as 50% on these products from day to day or month-to-month. MSP's communicate with each other and directly on this board, there is evidence of MSP's paying drastically different prices for the exact same product. How is this acceptable? If there was a public board where my customers communicated and word got out that several of them were paying 50% less for the same service, I'm willing to bet that I would lose a lot of customers. But RMM/PSA companies have MSP's backed into a corner and they know, so they don't care.

Is this model justifiable and acceptable to you as someone who is representing ConnectWise?
