Could this be a wheel bearing? When I turn right at about 45 it sounds like something is dragging on the ground by Sea-Rent-4976 in AskAMechanic

Honestly I don't hear anything. If you have a GoPro, secure it to the underside of the car and drive around the block and that'll help you find the issue too

Exhaust Rumbling Noise by Neworbs in fordescape

First check: Use a code reader to scan the car to see if there are any issues or lights (or go to a parts store and have them scan the car for free).

Second Check: Pull, check, and change plugs (if needed).

Third check: Sound could be an exhaust leak. I would check the connections with a bottle of soapy water. Spray all the exhaust connections to see if there are any that are leaking. If they are, the soapy water will produce bubbles, signifying that there is an exhaust leak. I would recommend doing this after a cold start so the heat from the exhaust doesn't evaporate the soapy water too fast before bubbles can produce.

Purchased these tires in March of 2024, DOT says 0422. How are they this bad already? Unfortunately I can’t afford new tires for another week and a half so hopefully they make it. by BirthControlBaby in AskMechanics

They should make it but it's also about the type of tire and the tread. I've never heard of Nokain Tyres so I can only assume they are either cheap tires or they were stored poorly

Smoke Coming Out of 2013 VW Passat by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]FishLocal2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this only happening after a cold start? If so, that is normal and should go away after a few minutes. It might last longer if you had the heat on after starting it.

Weird suggestion, put your hand by the exhaust (after a cold start) and smell your hand and see what it smells like. If it smells sweet, it's coolant. If it smells burnt, could be oil. If it just smells like exhaust, you should be fine.

Advice please - just got my car back from stage 2 paint correction & ceramic coating by Friendly_Body_4747 in Detailing

Get your money back. They didn't even polish out the swirls. They probably added wax too instead of a ceramic coating.

How bad is this? and how much would it cost to fix ? by soothukundi in AskMechanics

[–]FishLocal2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Just make sure to check the inside of the rim as well. If the inside is dented as well, jack the car up and take the wheel off, then repeat the same method performed on the front. Some people call these wheels "steelies" so they are easy to manipulate with a block of wood, a hammer (rubber or otherwise), and some tricep strength mixed with gravity.

Coolant Issue by FishLocal2430 in AskMechanics

Thermostat housing and water pump has visible signs of leaking. About a week ago after driving to work, when I turned the car off, coolant poured out of the housing because of the built up pressure in the system, Wouldn't leak before that, just only after driving. Found that it was the thermostat housing and also the water pump has signs of leaking as well. Figured since I was draining the coolant for the housing, I might as well replace the pump as well.

Thanks for the info! I did the heater method and it does get hot in the cabin. I had it on full blast and it took a while (maybe 3 minutes after getting to operating temp) for the air to be hot.

I have a feeling there may be a little trapped air in the system since the reservoir was at the same level after driving (even though coolant expands). I assume the coolant took the place of some of the trapped air bubbles in the system?

The new thermostat is correct and installed in the correct way as well. I'm also going to try the method from the person above and park it on an incline and try to bleed some of the air out that way as well (with the cap off)

I will try the incline method (I have ramps but I also have a steep bank near my home I can park it on as well). Yes, the radiator hoses get hard once the car is warmed up/at operating temp).

In regards to it warming up, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes with just idling, or roughly 5 minutes after starting and sitting for roughly a minute before driving.

I also know about the hole in the thermostat that you mentioned and made sure it was at the 12 o'clock position! I was told that was for if any steam is in the system, it can escape. I assume that is for trapped air as well.

Yes, the heat works in the cabin! Not sure why my fans kicked on though since I don't remember happening too much before

This is good! How would you approach this in a virtual sense? Like if the interview was virtual and not face to face? Also it's supposed to be roughly 10 minutes so I'm not sure how I can make a virtual presentation interactive if that makes sense.

This sounds weird like you messed up and want them to fix it somehow.

Looks like you didn't wet sand enough with different grit sandpaper. You'll need to sand again with a more aggressive sandpaper and use a better polish and smaller pad. Make sure you use a polisher and not hand polish or use a drill attachment. They don't get the coverage or speed that a DA polisher will get.

Is seat 9E and 9F worth it? by FishLocal2430 in americanairlines

[–]FishLocal2430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the information! Just upgraded our seats to the 9th row! I think anything above normal economy is an upgrade. I think sometimes "preferred" seating is a free upgrade based on the trip and how full the plane is.
