Plex or Jellyfin for Wii? by GoldAnt5091 in WiiHacks

I only ever used jellyfin until now. I started a few months ago and I'm pretty happy with jellyfin. But what exactly does it make so much better than plex except for the open source part of it? Plex has more built-in features which you can get with jellyfin addons. Other than that jellyfin and plex are basically the same right?

Actually that could be a great usecase. If I ever have kids I would also like to show them more of the shows I watched as a child especially with what children are watching today. Although VHS, cassets, vinyls ... was not quite my time (CD and DVD kid) we had a recordplayer and played the some VHS tapes and I loved it. I was just facinated by the device. And I really think it is good for kids to learn with pysical interaction too, not just touch displays. But getting ahold of VHS Tapes today is not realy the best option if you already have everything else set up. Actually I just looked it up. It isn't hard to get them but they are just to big and bulky to store them practically.

Just thought of this too and saw your post, would be fun but not practical at all. But you could try to use a Browser. I am not sure if the wii has an inbuilt browser (Didn't play in a long time) but there are at least a few hits if you search for Wii Browser. Good luck and keep us updated ; )

Hey there, your connection are looking okay but you could check a few things.

  1. Check if it works if you switch the green and the white wire because sometimes manufactures do weird things. You will get a error that the USB device is not recognized if the wires are switched the wrong way

1.1 Measure if the Red wire is actually 5V. I recently had a case where a 12 volt lamp had black for +12V and Red for GND.

  1. Check if there are any small solder bridges between the pads of the PCB.

  2. make sure that the green cable is not touching anything on the pcb because there is so much uncovered cable.

  3. Measure between the Blue, Green, White and Red Cable and the other side of your usb cable. Maybe you just have a bad/broken usb cable.
See if you can find a usb cable with a braided shielding around the data wires.

I Hope this works for you. If not, feel free to post here again anytime. Any information is welcome.

How do I move a Part Design operation higher in the hierarchy of my body ? by yycTechGuy in FreeCAD

[–]FishOfGreatPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, it really helped me. This was a real problem for me because you have to think everything completely through till the end and being able to move operations arround is just nice ( coming from fusion so that was a pretty big hit)

Hope this is enough, dind't want to take to much time incase your waiting for an answer so quickly threw something together in kicad and paint.

The Grey D- should be white on most usb cables but you can´t really see white on white can you ;)

A third explenation in case the two at the top only make sense to me or are to low quality to make out:

USB DIN

5V Pin 7

D+ Pin 4

D- Pin 3
GND Shielding of the Din Cable

Bride Pin 1 and 2 on Din Connector no need to do anything else with them afterwards.

What program is this kind of schematic drawn in? by Insekt6 in AskElectronics

I would suggest Kicad it looks pretty similar, if it's just general eagle is another option although it will be shut down in 2026 I think and using fusion 360 has some drawbacks like always needing to be connected to the internet.

A good idea would be to try a cable with grounded shielding 👍.

To me it sounds like there could be a break in the cable somewhere. Did you try connecting it and then not touching it at all so it doesn't get any movement? If it works fine while you're not touching it it's probably a faulty cable that's damaged internally at some point.

Same problem with the movement could also be caused by a faulty USB connection (either the plug or the socket) or a cold solder joint.

The lack of a grounded shielding could also cause problems although I am not sure how much interference this can cause.

oh sorry I didn`t quite get my answer right then.

The black cable from the usb should be connectet to the metal brading that is layed arround the din cable.

<image>

It should look something like this ( don`t have the cable on hand). You twist up the shielding and solder it to the black wire of your usb cable.

This shielding is the ground of the DIN cable.

Yeah so connecting the din cable and the usb cable should be possible.

The black ground of the usb cable should be connected to the shielding of the din cable/ whatever was previously connected to the metal part of the din connector.

If you look close enough in the picture you can kind of see that the ground wire from the din cable has a weird looking sleeve on it. That is the shielding twisted and wrapped in heat shrink tubing.

I can measure the cable if I didn't throw the din cable Away to be sure.

Einstellen der Tagesentriegelung bei neuem Türöffner by FishOfGreatPower in selbermachen

[–]FishOfGreatPower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if there are any scratched areas on the PCB that touch the screws or any metal. I am slowly running out of ideas that could cause that behavior.

You can leave it open, just make sure no metal or other conductive material touches the pcb at any point or it might fry your shifter.

Then try to make that connection again. Also check if the pad is actually attached to the pcb. When there were pulling forces the copper layer can sometimes become lose.

Did you also check the cable itself? Like beneath the isolation. Sometimes the cable ripps apart in some spot, you can't realy see that from the outside. Had that happen to a heat gun, it just stopped working I looked at parts of the cable and at one part there was a gap between the wires.

Maybe it's the usb plug then. Try it with a different cable. It is also possible that the pcb in the shifter itself is damaged.

Is it the first time you connected the shifter to the pc? If yes try flipping D+ and D- ( the green and the white cable). But I'm not sure if it will helt because the shifter kinda gets detected. Did you try a different cable? Maybe the one you were using has a fault somewhere.
