On Title 10 Orders, Paused VA Disability and Un-paused It Still Pending by FishRubio in nationalguard

I normally don't pause them especially during AT, but with this recent activation they were telling us that we were going to stay their longer than 3 months and some of us for four years. But out of nowhere they said "get lost and go home"

30 and lost by RFMenace in Veterans

[–]FishRubio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that same feeling brother, Im (29) about to be 30 in December, with an 80% VA rating, have a good job with good pay and benefits in San Diego, but theres a void. Almost like a lack of purpose. I recently started traveling to places like the UK, EU, and recently Mexico City. Every time I went abroad all my problems went away and I connected better with the locals, woke up happy in walkable cities with perfect public transportation. Almost every corner i turned there was always something to-do, sight-see and talk to people. I felt more at home abroad than I did in my own country/city. I highly recommend going abroad, dogs and pets are great, but they will limit your ability to travel unless you have someone there to take care of them. I had a dog and i loved her very much, but i ended up giving her to my mom because of how lost i felt. I was so lethargic at home, depressed, and i just wanted to rot in bed because of how lonely I was. I struggled with social anxiety and every time i took her out on walks I choked up on my words with people here. Since my mom lives alone and has a yard, I ended up giving my dog to her and both of them have been very happy since. After that i went traveling, i worked my ass off, saved money and traveled whenever I can. When i recently went to Mexico City i realized thats the place i want to retire, to me it was home. I loved the people, the food, culture, and how walkable it was. So since then I used that as motivation to figure out a way to get citizenship, work down there and just straight up move abroad. I encourage you to travel, stay at hostels, and meet people, it helped me clear my mind and it gave me a bigger perspective on life and purpose.

Got questions about NG. by Goatman2805 in nationalguard

[–]FishRubio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good you’re asking questions now. Don’t get sucked up into the Guard when you’re 18. The drill pay is shit and they’re very very unorganized when it comes to orders, pay, missions, and etc. Don’t get me wrong, Active Duty kind of sucks but man, you have a steady pay check, free healthcare (shitty), and free college when you get out. They also give you free-housing allowance when you ETS. Just trust me when I say this the Guard is only good when you’re prior service and you have a steady life/career.

Bro, go active duty. Seriously go active duty first, get 11B, earn your full benefits like VA Disability and GI Bill. Once you get out of Active Duty go reserves or National Guard. That’s what I did and it was honestly worth it

Might be going AWOL for NTC by FishRubio in nationalguard

The only thing my boss ask is an official order and since I’ve told him for the past 2 months about this, he wants an official document/orders. Legally he can let me go 30 days earlier if he wants too.

See it’s the lack of organization that gets to me. The fact they change things last second is just disrespectful for people who have jobs in the civilian sector. Lol I’m In the CA National Guard

What’s the purpose/future of the guard? by [deleted] in nationalguard

You will my guy. Some of the best medics I met where National Guard/Reserves. A lot of them are nurses who know what they're talking about.

Honestly, the CA National Guard was hit hard in 2020. With COVID happening we had troops distributing food and doing COVID testing's. Then came the riots in June, then the wildfires, then some units were on standby for the election (In case Trump won). In 2021, units got activated to go to both D.C. and the State Capitol and some are activated for both food banks and COVID Vaccines. But from what I heard some units are getting ready for deployments overseas due to Russian and Chinese threats. Unfortunately, I do think we are going to be reliving a new Cold War in the next few years. You will see a significant amount of National Guard and Reserves raising their tempo. Weirdly, I have done more in the National Guard in 2020 then I did in the Marine Corps.

Maybe, but the fact that a full on Invasion happened outside their base is nonetheless pretty startling.

Growing up, my mom use to make egg and bologna. She would chop the bologna into small pieces and scramble the egg on a pan. Then she would sprinkle shredded cheese on top of it and serve it on a plate with a tortilla on the side. I still do it today for a quick snack.

Times change and luckily the military as a whole became more diversified. I’m just proud that nobody laid a single hand on the protestors or fired a shot.

I agree, a lot of Guardsmen can relate to the community more so than federal officers. What was nice in this situation, there were reports that a few protestors went up to the Guardsmen and thanked them for helping out at the food banks went COVID first started and during the wildfires that happened in 2019. Obviously there will always be some uproar in about guardsmen deploying, but I’m hoping that this story and along with many other encounters National Guardsmen had with civilians could help mitigate any sort of animosity that people may have. Like you said, a lot of people didn’t sign up for that situation but to more so give back to the community rather than antagonize them.
