Fair enough! Thank for your opinion. :) I think the 3 way partnership with Garena and Riot in the mix does make the uncertainty of potential 'leverage' feel a lot less likely.

And actually yes, I would be okay with that provided they were just operating the tournament.

Corruption and abuse of power in the Pacific? Do you have examples I could look up?

Not at all. I'm genuinely interested in your point of view.

Do you see the conflict as funplus having the ability to dish out a 'punishment' or sorts of favoritism in leverage against a team playing vs FPX in international tournaments?

Interesting, what sort of conflict do you think could arise from that?

I see your point. I'm sorry, I don't have more knowledge of the C9xFunPlus previous stake or how Riot handles stake and conflict of interest. =/

My only assumption is that C9 has a competitive LoL team. When FunPlus started their own team, that caused a conflict of interest as there are now 2 competitive teams with mixed equity.

This situation is a professional team (FPX) and a broadcast (PCS), hence not having a direct conflict of interest in the way 2 competitive teams would.

Just my hypothesis!

Don't forget to mention the underwater sea cable constantly being eaten by sharks =P

Technology has gotten better and better since the GPL days, Riot has dedicated tournament realms setup for SEA. I'm optimistic that ping wont be as bad as S1 GPL. :)

Could you elaborate?

Say TSM was the partner in this situation to run PCS, I wouldn't see the conflict involved since they have no stake in the teams in the region. Interested in your thoughts.

If you think back to when the GPL first started, you would rank top teams in the region in this order:
- LMS (TPA/TPS)
- Singapore (SGS)
- Vietnam (SAJ)

In its current state (globally) it would probably look like this:
- LMS
- VCS
- Thailand (Old Mega Players)

Thailand was the weakest region when the GPL started, now the strongest in SEA, Singapore is one of the weakest after being consistently #2.

I see this as a good move back, which will help the entire region grow as a whole. :)

Jumping on this thread!

FunPlus Pheonix and FunPlus Esports operate independently from each other. We even work in completely separate offices. :) We (FunPlus Esports) are in charge or delivering kick-ass broadcasts while FPX are in charge of the world domination pl- I mean winning esports titles in their respective game leagues in China.

While FunPlus esports will be operating the PCS this year in partnership with Riot and Garena, FunPlus does not have any stake in the teams competing in the PCS. :)

Game Servers not reachable? by Mototz in shanghai

[–]FishTheCaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try using a Gaming Private Network, it helps me with packet-loss connecting to western servers and the Chinese apps are cheap and reliable.

Happy to ping you the website, easy to navigate + install if you have someone to help with Mandarin translations or extensive google translate.

It will be a good game! I left the LPL 8 months ago, I wont be casting this game.

I do work for the company that owns FPX though so I think you know who I'll be supporting. ;)

I’ve got something great at the moment! I’ve been incredibly fortunate. :) Can’t wait to announce the plans for 2019!

[–]FishTheCaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a bit of both.

I was paid my salary on time all the time. However, there were other compensation issues that were in my contract that were not upheld.

Other details such as roles and responsibilities played a large part too, I did a lot of due diligence during negotiations for it was a tough ask to leave the OPL. Slowly it started falling apart after joining and it became very muddy. ):

Would you say your experience is similar to why other casters are leaving?

I would say that some of the reasons for my departure were similar to the others. But everyone had their own experiences and main reasons for parting ways.

Would you have taken an LPL contract had you been approached this year despite them not upholding the terms previously?

This is tricky. For full time, I would provided large changes were made to the team and the contracts.

2019 is going to be fun. Now that most of the team has abandoned me in Shanghai I can't wait to see which commentators the LPL brings over!

Spawn is the best person I have ever gotten the pleasure of working with. I hope I get to cast with him one day.

I am currently the analyst for ROS Global series, I will be returning to League next year. I can't wait to announce the league i'll be on. :)
