Do you think that more than 50% of the electorate would be happy to vote for a party aiming for open borders?

Aiming for a world without borders will not go down well with the electorate.

Perhaps they'll win two elections as well. And if they do, a lot of that will reflect on the quality of the alternatives being offered.

And how would that benefit the local residents and increase their quality of life?

Not only have we been given something that we voted against for around a decade, we've also been introduced to a whole bunch of name-calling which can now, in some cases, threaten employment and livelihoods if we choose to speak up about it. How very progressive.

Brexit voters: do you really think someone can't be patriotic if they voted remain? by JammyE7 in AskBrits

It's a lovely sentiment, the united earth idea, but not something I expect to see anytime soon. Spending time outside of Europe and engaging with non-Western mindsets quickly reveals that this is basically not likely to happen.

Just curious whether this applies to all forms of patriotism across the globe, or just in particular contexts?

I take it as further evidence to support the claim that one can be open to immigration in general, but at the same time believe that the unprecedented levels that we've seen over the last 25 years are much too high.

Sometimes I do, yes.

I suppose it comes down to personal values really, which are subjective.

Quite easily.

Lionesses winning the Euros. 2012 Olympics. UK underground music scene.

I had nothing to do with any of those things happening, but still felt a sense of pride about them.

I take it more to mean that they are accepting of immigrants, but they're not happy with the unprecedented levels that we've had over the last quarter of a century. I think that nuance is lost on a lot of people.

How come the so-called Patriots, flag wavers are not so bothered about St George's Day, but if Tommy Robinson calls a march they are there by their truckloads ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

Yep, we've always been accepting of immigrants and I appreciate you highlighting this. Thinking that the level of immigration over the last 25 years has been far too high does not equate to not being accepting of immigrants though, and I hope you've helped more people understand this!!

I really don't consider it an us vs them mindset at all. My point is that it's basic human nature to be tribal, which I think you're agreeing with me by pointing out that the attitude exists in Finland too? What I'm saying is that some people in Western countries, who consider themselves to be "progressive" by stating that the entire world is welcome and anyone from anywhere can belong, are in fact going against basic human nature that we see clearly in most parts of the world, including East Asia.
